Hell you could put 20's on a civic if you wanted... question is WHY would you? Daily driving, dont go over 17's... If they are "show" rims - then sure 19's are fine.

hm... ive been talkin with my friends that know alot about wheels and shit... i dont know much about it but they say they can get 19's to fit and not rub... why do you think anything higher then 17's arent good for daily driving? is the a reason? i drive my car like no other so i wanna go the best route.. 19's would like bad as hell... 17's are kinda small so im thinking 18's or 19's and my friends say to go as big as possible and this is a daily drivin vehicle like said before.

19'S Would look dumb as hell the rims are bigger then your damn car
you might have to lift your car to fit 19's without rubbing

Dblade

you think id have to lift it? shit i thought id still have to drop it about half a inch.. lol

Rubbing isnt the reason... Maybe on 19's... But.. The main reason they're saying larger rims arent good for everyday driving.. Is because... the larger the rim.. the thinner the tire.. You want to avoid rubber bands.. for 2 main reasons.. the ride is gay as hell.. and if you hit a pot-hole.. or a turtle, or even a lane reflector.. Its a chance you could easily flatten your tire.. and destroy your "beautiful" rims...

18's arent too big.. they wont rub.. But.. I would be VERY careful driving everyday.. especially if you drive like a dumbass (like me) Dont E-brake! Because with thinner tires.. You have less surface area for the tire to expand.. so.. Cutting 180's or just being a generalized idiot is out of the question.

You say 17's are too small? Hmm.. Try lowering the car.. if your worried about 17's being too small, it will take out the extra space between the wheel wells which will give the rim a fuller look and prolly make it look more pleasing.

Hell the 15's on my hatch almost looked "too big" when I had it dumped almost to the ground (literally, ask Rice-Rocketeer... we scraped oil pan everywhere :bigthumb: )

what does your car have on it now? 14's? 15's? when you throw a set of 17's on it like I did they are PLENTY big... the ride is a little harsher but still not to bad and my car is a daily driver. I run 205 45 17 tires and they are just about short enough sidewall for my blood... i have hit a pothole or two with no damage but trust me, look at a set of 205 45 17's and realize how short the sidewall has to be to keep the speedometer accurate. now imagine the tire sidewall being even shorter... its nuts!!

another thought... with your HUGE 19 inch gangsta wheels... what is it going to look like when you look inside the wheel and see stock size brake rotors/drums? one word... $H!T

get a set of 17x7's and some 205 45 17's to mount on them then lower the car maybe an inch and it will look great

theres a guy on clubsi.com with 19" axis. look him up his username is mofo :bigthumb: personally, i think 18s would do, but 17s can look small with a kit. i have 17's on an oem kit, which i think looks fine from most angles, but from a straight side shot, it looks a little small :frown:

and if i remember correctly, mofo had to modify it so that he wouldn't rub. i think it's impossible not to rub lowered on 19s. hell i rub on my 17. good luck!

except on a civic for the speedometer to be correct with 17's you need 205/40/17 tires not 45,

on my civic i have 205/40/17's and the ride is a lot different then stock, you feel every bump with 17's i would not wanna feel what it would be like with 19's

see idont know much about this stuff... i was jus tlistening to some friends... i figured theyd know what there talking about since they got pimped out cars theyve done there selfs... one has a bad ass prelude... body kit... they painted it orange and the other gots a accord with a air ride and rims on it

19's for show, yes...
19's for everyday driving, no... a really big no no too...

here are the reasons:

1.) horrible ride... bigger rims fukk up the spring rate
2.) larger wheel = more material to create larger diameter wheel... its harder to stop the car...
3.) they will probably bent and/or crack easily when u hit a minor pot-hole since u will have extremely thin tires
4.) the larger wheel may cause calibration errors in the car's computer... there are sensors there to engage the ABS... the larger rims may engage the ABS at the wrong time...
5.) u prally cant fit that many people inside a civic with 19's... load on the wheels is another issue

one of the teachers at my school has 19's on his daily driven rsx with no probs

Yah man.. 19's probably fit on an RSX a little better than on a civic.. Its not the same thing.. completely different... opposite of similar... an RSX has a factory 17'' wheel... the civic... 14''(92-95) and 15''(96+)... Its like putting 20's on an S-10 or a Mazda Lantis or something.. It just doesnt make sense for daily driving... Looks cool as hell (judging the rim isnt ghetto fabulous) But just not logical.

Melt
06-29-2003, 01:05 PM
now that I think about it youre right ... the rsx has no probs cause it comes with 17's

oh and the rim is pretty tight lookin ... heres a pic

Hmm.. I saw a GS300 today with 19's and even on a luxury sedan... they look fuckin huge... so.. Im thinkin 19's on a civic would be a little ghettooooo

Let me clear a few things up here...Yes, 19's work fine on a 1998 civic---I have a set on my 98' and they look perfect. No, you will not have to raise the car in order for them to fit (as someone mentioned). I have a 2 3/4 drop in the front and a 3 1/2 inch drop in the back and because of the raise in ride height due to the larger diameter wheel/tire package the floorboard is really only about 2 inches lower than stock (it never scrapes!! even if you try)...but it looks really low, because it tucks almost to the rim in the back and a little bit of tire in the front.....As far as the bending of the rims goes, just make sure that you purchase a "good" set of wheels and not some cheap crap---this will determine if they bend or not after the first big pothole (I recommend racing harts, or OZ Italy--both durable and also lightweight)....yes, the car is a little slower, and a little less gas mileage, you can't put 3 people in the backseat, and YES the front will rub on U-turns (in the inner fender)....but, it is worth the small sacrafice to me...

one other thing, make sure that you get 19 x 7.5 (not 8), and make sure you have at least a 48 mm offset, with 50-52 being the preferred offset...otherwise, the back will not tuck up in the fender---it will rub on the outer fender and potentially puncture the tire!!

email me if you want pictures...

i have 18 inch racing harts for everyday driving and the car rides really good, as a matter of fact better than the stock rims in my opinion. they rub a little but hey guess what it wasnt made for the car so there are compromises if you wanna look good

Yea, racing hearts are good rims. I drive on a set of 17" bronze cp10's, about a year ago I hit a pothole I couldn't avoid. HUGE ass pothole. Was sure it had to have cracked the rims....suprised it didn't shatter. It got bent a bit, but nothing else. No crack, held air fine, just a little cosmetic damage, I was pissed, but I couldn't complain, cuz the rim survived the hit. A cheaper rim would have shattered. WHoever said 17's can look small with a kit was right, my 17's looked huge, even with the car lowered, on a stock body. Once I put a kit on, we all noticed the wheels looked a lot smaller. Not too small (expect for the side angle) but defiantly smaller. I have 18's for show and they look correct on there now with the kit. I had to drive back from a show on em once when I forgot my wheel locks (so I couldn't put the 17's back on. Had to drive home with 8 sets of wheels and tires (had the stock 13's there too, for the display, you had to see it, but it worked good) plus me and my gf in the front seat. The damn rims rubbed a bit in the back over every little bump or tiny dip. Lowered 2 inchs plus all that extra wait, man. If I drove on those, I'd have to never have more than 1 passenger in the car (unless I rolled the fenders, since thats what is was rubbing on, the fenders inner lip). So I stick with 17's. I know 18's should be fine on a 98, but I would think 19's are a bit too big, unless for show, much like 17's and 18's on my 92. Hope all this helps a little, although I doubt it did.
