Is the ZC an integra motor??..It looks just like it. anyways can u put a vtec head on ZC?. U can with the integra motor..The ZC has the same valve Cover...AND. u can use 90-2000 integra tranny with The b16a

two different motors, zc is not compatable with a vtec head unless its the sohc but i know your talking about dohc. the integra motors are b series. a zc is basicly considered a d seris so no, a vtec will not go on a zc. and i know i know if you have enough money any thing is possiable.

No, No, NO....and No....

The Zc is a "japan-only" motor, and only looks like the b18 non-vtec motors. The closest thing we have to the Zc here is the d16xx found in the 86-89 Integra. That was also a 1.6l, but thats where the similarities stop. The Zc puts out about 135hp at the flywheel, very similar to the 90+ Integra motor. But again, it is a 1.6L motor, and only looks like a b18.

Nothing from any B series motor will work with any Zc series motor. They are odd-balls, and don't have the ability to be whored out like the other Honda motors. If you want to do a head swap, the Zc isnt for you.

For a Zc you would want to use a D-series Si transmission, and mpfi obd-zero wiring/ecu.

Your confusing a lot of stuff.

First of all the ZC is similar to the 88-89 Integra engine (D16A1) but is not the same and has 4G Civic type chassis mounts while the D16A1 has 3G Civic type chassis mounts.

The Integra engine you can put a VTEC head on would be the 90-93 and 94-01 Integra which had B18As (90-93) and I think B18Bs (94-01) and those are the non-VTEC ones of course.

A B16A tranny would bolt up to the B-series Integra engine however keep in mind that a 88-91 Civic had a cable tranny and I believe the 94+ Integra had a hydro tranny so they wouldn't be interchangable. But a B16 Cable tranny will work on a B18 in an 88-91 Civic.

the B18A1 tranny is also a b series cable tranny. and also, if you look, the ZC/D16A1 style valve cover doesnt really look like a B18A/B valve cover. the ZC has a plastic style cam cover, while the B18 has the cam cover molded into the valve cover. the ZC valve cover is also more rounded (rounded towards the front of the car) while the B18 is more of a flat top valve cover.

How much Hp is the non vtec 90-93 integra motor giving??..Examples ls , rs or gs..(not gsr)

FourthGenHatch

I think the 90-91 OBD-0 B18A is 130hp and the 92-93 OBD-1 B18A is 140hp.

So why get a SOHC ZC?? In stead Of gettin a DOHC. integra motor?? The integra motor is pushing about the same or more horses..And u cant put a vtec head on it making it gs/vtec ls/vtec rs/vtec

Well it really boils down to personal preference.

a b18a and a Zc have pretty much the same power figures, except I think the redline is slightly different.....Im not sure on that.

The reason I got a Zc over a b18a was for two main reasons....

First, no mounts are needed, because the Zc comes straight from the ef3 Civic and the ef7 Crx in japan.

Second, because most motors you get direct from Japan tend to have less than 30K miles on them, even if they are 12 years old.

Anywho, I never planned on doing anything to modify the Zc, except turbo when I have the money. Plus I wanted something different than everyone around here. The Zc is a cost effective, and simple swap into a usdm Si. I love mine and cant wait to get it back in my car.

also,

The b18 in the 90-91 Integra rs/ls/gs are all obd-zero and have 130hp.

The b18 in the 92-93 Integra rs/ls/gs are all obd-1 and have 140hp.

All 90-93 Integra motors have cable trans, including the ys1 found in the 92-93 Gs-R.

I've never seen a SOHC ZC in person....Can you really swap a d16z/y head onto them??? If so, why would you want to buy a jdm motor just to chop it up?....Is the hybrid of Sohc Zc block and z6/y stronger than say a regular sohc vtec??? Anyone running this setup???

Well for the torque part its a whole different story.

Oh not that can'o'worms again....

Hp and Torque are directly relative....torque is dirivative of hp, and vise versa.

The Zc and b18 have similar hp/torque numbers, but different power curves.

Huh??? Ok you come back and give me the torque specs on the ls motor and zc so we can both compare them. They're totally different. i believe its 121 lbs vs 109 or somewhere around that.

and also the LS is into its powerband at a lower rpm....

I just did a 90 LS swap, i love it. no more waiting for 4500 and vtec to feel pull. i can stomp it at 2,000 rpm and it seems like it gets up and goes.

Which Motor is faster??...still why get an SOHC ZC..over An DOHC..if their putting out the same horses???...Is the SOCH v-tec faster than the SOHC ZC??

sohc zc = d16a6 only the zc is JDM.

a friend of mine had a sohc zc witha cracked block, we took it apart for a head swap on a DX CRX, the ZC has the same pistons as an a6 and everything.

sohc zc = 108hp
dohc zc = 130hp
sohc vtec= 125-127hp

I would too...I would go b20 over b18..I have some street racing flicks or my friend with the b20 monster in in 93 civic cx...I would post them on the site but i dont know how

B18 all the way, if i could do it over again i would build up a ls motor. b16's are good for top end but i like the pull of a built b18.

Hey 91BLKSi - thanks for getting into some technical discussions instead of just posting pics of 4Gs in dark alleys

I decided to go with a DOHC ZC because it is a d-series motor and bolts into my car without mounts, and it was cheap. Any B-series motor (90-2001) Integra or JDM (88-91) Civic Si-R requires a mount kit for a 4G Civic, which run about $400, different axles, and a b-series cable tranny + modified shift linkage, even tho a b16 longblock is now about the same price as a ZC longblock. I decided for my first swap, I didn't want all those headaches..and chose a slightly less expensive bolt-in swap...although now with $$ spent on the rebuilding the ZC, I prolly could have gotten all those parts and a b16 :bloated:

We have a couple of peeps here with CRVTEC (b20 block & b16 head)....they love 'em and are really quick, even a 4-door ;)
