just have a go, dont expect the results to be as clean or as good as ones you see here but you have to start somewhere, just try small things, use ur imagination.
modeling card (same stuff as model is made of) can be used to form the base for putty and to give clean hard lines, but why not just start of with something small like a hood vent? and lower lip extension?
just remember to spend your time blending things in, use 1200 grit wet and dry sandpaper soaked in water to blend the putty into origional bodywork. it takes time and effort but as long as you stick it out you will begin to improve, some of my bodys have taken over 40hrs to form

yah i should start small and not to be a an idiot(get it often from family:loser: ) but how can i get a guide on hood vents or anything thing involving model putty? and also i have an unused can of bondo for a car i have left can i use it instead of putty(which i dont have at the moment) or is it a bad idea. Can putty be bought at the local pepboys or auto shop

THANX IN ADVANCE:loser:

A little harsh dont you think?

chrismcgee
06-25-2003, 08:32 AM
well i never have a clear idea on what i am making, i let it evolve, it seems to make the body more fluid in design.
yes you can use bondo just make sure you use and sand in a well ventilated area, thats why i like humbrol putty, its pretty safe to use inside, and air dries.
just look at a pic of a car, and build up some putty and keep sanding, it took me 14hrs to perfect my evo vent on my merc, but i percervered, keep the faith.

BTW i have been doing this and already have my first commisioned piece of work on the way for a customer!! not too bad

dannysreallycool
06-25-2003, 12:31 PM
ok so i could use bondo good im gunna get started right away, im planning on doing a black widow 1 off of a super street magazine but i will probably EVOVLE in some custom half black widow1 / half blitz kit u never know until u try it thanx EVERYONE

chrismcgee
06-25-2003, 01:23 PM
go for it dude, splat it on and sand it down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you will be very happy when your done, use 150-400 grit for shaping then work your way up to 2000 grit wet and dry to create the final finish, just go for it!!!! cant wait to see it, and dont get disheartened if it dont go right first time, just add more and sand till its right!

Hi Kids!

Today we're going to learn about a fundamental piece of the English language!

First of all, the period . is your friend when you are done writing down a thought. These help people know when to clear their heads and expect another idea.

Next is the comma , This little curvy buddy is there when you want to fit a lot of thoughts into one little sentence. But of course, don't forget to end the sentence with our friend the period.

Stay tuned for next week's lesson! G'bye!

Why are you such a dick Syndicate, the only thing I hear coming form you is bitching about periods and stuff. You put that same thing in one of your post a while ago! can't you just say "hey can you put periods in your post, thanks" instand of being ass about it. just cuz you been here a little longer doesn't mean you have to think your better then any one because you put periods in you post and they dont. can't you be a little nicer about it?

chrismcgee
06-25-2003, 05:39 PM
i agree with slipknot. just leave the grammar etc, who gives a flying fuck, if i can read it then i am happy, as is the same with most people, and ur from hamburg, are you from england or are you on "taught" english?????????? yes it does not contain full stops etc but i dont mind, its not hurting me, dont put this guy off, we build models not write poetry or books, and coments should be restricted to the models, please if you cant say anything nice dont say anything.

I thank you kindly dear sir :icesangel

well they do, but this is a forum, og like minded people who want to share ideas, why not join a forum of gramaticaly correct persons, but then you may not feel as superior!!!!! lol.
well in work i am a very well spoken person, and the English tax pounds were spent very well crating my vocabulary and other skills but i choose to be myself here, and just have fun.:loser:

But as I said before..

If you aren't going to put in any effort to make your idea clear and legible, then why should any of us put in effort to help you out?

What does it matter, I understand what he said, why didn't you? if you didn't understand it, why cry about it? just IM him and tell him "put periods on you post. I can't understand them." instead of making a seen like you did and going off topic. If you do it next time, it wont upset people on the forum like it did Chrismcgee, and I

Bodykits guys, anyways, Danny it's basically a trial-and-error way, you just see what works for the way you build. Once you give it a shot, you'll know what I mean, cause there's no one way to make what you want.

one thing you might want to consider, is getting maybe a real cheap model from walmart or something, and practicing on that. I don't know how much you paid for the civic, but I would bet probably 18-20 US dollars unless you were lucky enough to find it in wal-mart. If your attached to the civic and you've never made bodykits before, get yourself a nice el-cheapo model real quick and flirt with all of your ideas on that kit. you'll be less nervous about screwing it up, more opt to try more details because like I said you won't have the "i don't want to mess this kit up" lingering over your head.

otherwise I can almost guarantee you'll feel like this on your first kit
:twak: :angryfire: :chair:

PS, don't be in a rush, its gonna take time to do it right.

well the civic i bought was given as a gift but the local hobby shop for $14. also it came with two diffent front bumpers and rear(stock & FEELZ) so im practicing on the stock cuz losing it wont really bother me and to be honest im on a super tight budget i dont even have the extra $5-$8 to buy an EL-CHEAPO thas why i im taking good care of this because its a gift and i didnt pay squt, so if i F*CK Up i wont get another 1 for about 3-6 months

:wtf:

Wow, sounds like your struggling. budget of 5-8 bucks.

Some people here spend like 5 bucks on Tamiya spray.

Good luck, sounds like you'll be brush painting your body. :bloated:

I hope not!

At least you could use a spray can for painting the body. Even if you don't use primer.

If you can't afford a cheap model for now, that isn't a bad idea to try the putty work on scrap. Once you get the hang of it, it'll come easier and easier as you go. I just bought a Civic kit a few days ago and it's turning out good so far. Good luck with the body kits.

its all good, you gotta start somewhere and that kit is great cause it has so many aftermarket options that you normally would have to make on your own if you couldn't hunt them down on the net or whatever. I totally forgot that yes, you have 2 bumpers to pick from. NICE! well, keep us up to date, and.......

if you start makin a bodykit we want to see it!!!!

If you want a body kit so bad just go to SAS. Or you can try to make ur own but that would take a lot of patience. I suggest u build it urself(no offense chris, ur body kits r great) if u want ur kit to look the way u want it, but if ur short on time just buy an SAS kit.

oki i dont mean to revive an old forum but heres wut happened, i had finally finished my buddy club kit it wasnt all as great as to wut i see at this forum, but it got the job done, i mean to someone who didnt know much about model cars it would be great.Ya so once i had finished i left it to dry on my balcony. so im getting all happy and emotional j/k:tongue: and i guess when i came home it was dry but there was a big crack down the middle and the right side broke off. . . now i thought it was my mom who probably drop something or i dont know cuz i did it in the morning and i discovered it late night when it was dry

WUT COULD HAVE HAPPENED???

I guess syndicate has it out for you dude, watch out the dude in his pic feeds dead bodys to pigs, lets hope he's not as nasty about things, anyways since I don't speak german and I doubt you do too, I would say its either the temperature or someone dropped it obviously. if its cracked you can probably just fill the seem no? without pics its hard to help. can you glue it back together and putty as necessary or is it shot completely?:dunno:
