1999 Fuel Pressure Sensor / Fuel Rail Sensor

My issue is for a 1999 Mystique, which has the same set up as a 1999 Cougar V6-2540 2.5L DOHC

I have diagnosed my issue to the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor. It appears the diaphragm is blown. I can get the car to run fine by plugging the vacuum hose nipple and disconnecting the wiring but now the check engine light is on. I have tried Ford and every other parts house I can think of and I am unable to find a replacement Fuel Pressure Sensor.

According to Ford, the part is NO LONGER AVAILABLE and I have had no luck finding a replacement. Everyone is trying to sell me the fuel tank sensor or the fuel pressure regulator. Apparently they had 3 different fuel systems. A return system and 2 non-return systems, one mechanical and one electronic. I have the electronic system with a blown diaphragm.

Anybody have a source for a Fuel Pressure Sensor or a work around for the check engine light?

Since there is no return fuel line and the system relies on feedback from the sensor to regulate the fuel pressure via the fuel pump, I would think that there probably isn't a work around to get the light off. You didn't mention if your tried looking for a used sensor. If you go on http://www.car-part.com/ and search for your vehicle you can get a list of hundreds of results for 1999. I put in "fuel rail & misc. injection" since the sensor wasn't one of the choices. There were many complete fuel rails in the results for the V6.
