This is another one that is often misdiagnosed by shops and owners alike. I will tell you now we rarely if ever see a Ford power steering hydraulic failure whether it be a pump or rack they just don't fail they don't even have leak issues for the most part, nothing that would cause a steering issue anyway. If you are having this issue where there is a free bind free bind feeling in your steering take a look at my video I walk you through it.

I don't suppose there is any preventative steps you could take to stop this from happening? On a different subject, have you done a video on the cam phasers for the 5.4L? I'm going to have to finally do mine this spring and the videos I found last summer weren't very helpful.

Well not really because the seals are what lets the water in the corrode but we have had a guy at work that just sprays his with rust penetrant to free them up for the time being so I imagine wd-40 on then would displace moisture from them and lube them as a preventative. I do not have a phaser video yet I have not done one in awhile. We just had one in the shop a few weeks ago but the other guy in the shop got the job because I was buried with that engine job. If I ever do get one I will be making a video on it though.
