On a typical inline 4 cyl engine, what would removing the catalytic converter do for hp?

Thanks for your expertise.

It would give you a couple extra horsepower, but rob you of some torque.

also makes the exhaust smell bad ... and in states that require them, you get hit with a hefty fine if you remove it.

Also makes the exhaust sound a bit more raspy.

i got a bomz high-flow cat... just a resonated test pipe. since its resonated the exhaust doesnt sound more raspy, just as much horsepower gain. regardless of the torque loss it'll drop your quarter mile time by .5 seconds on a gen2 integra... half a second of your 1/4... thats some serious shit.

Thats hard for me to believe sense I have a testpipe on my car and I only got .2 seconds off my time. I'm sorry but I am leaning toward the B.S calling if you don't have proof.

Wow. I didn't even think it would do that. Who makes your's? How much was it? Is a bolt on deal or is welding required? Sorry for being a question box today.

P.S. Whtteg: From what I see, your car is awesome! Got any more pics of it?

Thanks, I don't have anymore at the moment. The testpipe cost me $35 from a guy if you want his email address pm me and I'll give it to you. And it was a direct bolt on deal.

P.S loesch8102, your teg looks nice too :bigthumb: , do you have any problems with your side skirts chipping, I have been thinking about painting mine but I was not sure about the paint chipping or not.

Yea it really isn't that big of a gain maybe 3hp max, the only reason it shaved 2 tenths off my time is b/c I am using nitrous, if it would have been n/a then it may have shaved .05 seconds off the time.

Maybe he just got better at driving his car also at the same time. It is hard for me to believe that he shaved that much time off of his ET with just a testpipe, when i shaved not even half as much and I am using N20.

he went friday night then took it off saturday morning and raced it again that saturday night so i dont think it was ability... he was running consistent 16.1xx wit the cat and 15.6xx without it. i saw a thing that showed dyno graph of a hummer h2 gaining 27 hp when they took the cat off, so i find it believeable to get half that much hp on an engine half that size.

I still think there had to be another factor other than testpipe IMO. But I have seen some things before that I could not explain so I guess if you say it happened it did but I wish i would have gained that much with mine :screwy:
