Hello, im new here! Ive been reading this forum alot lately however i havent posted before...
i would like to say that this has helped me a lot and i would like to thank everyone here for passing on their knowledge to newbies like me haha..
anyways, the problem here is that somehow i cant seem to be able to use Semi Gloss Black X-18 properly. Everytime i use it to paint a part or something, it always ends up really really shiny.
Ive seen other cars around the forum where the window frames or engine parts are painted semi-g black but theirs isnt as shiny and doesnt reflect as much light..
so im wonder what i am doing wrong here, can anyone help me out??
thanx

Hi there!
I used to have the same problem, Try uping the PSI on your gun to about 30 to 50 PSI, and give it a couple of thin coats at a 50-50 mix.
thats how I do it and it works
Cheers

Problem is in that color. Tamiya's X-18 is to shiny for SG color. Try to use Humbrol 85 or Revell 382 color. They are much better and I use it all the time.

If you spray SG black at high levels it will come out flatter. X-18 is a very weird color, when you brush it on it can be glossy or flat and same when you spray it. Try Humbrol 85 as someone suggested.
Still yet to find the perfect semi gloss black, though (model masters SG black is even glossier when brushed on)

I had the very same problem:frown: If your brushing it like I did it's probably the paint being to thick!!! Use Tamiya thinner:bigthumb: Once I got the paint thinned out (which you should always do) it will be SG again and not that ugly shinny stuff! Trust me, Tamiya thinner:sunglasse

If thinner doesn't work, you can always try tamiya flat base. I use it for my armor stuffs! Just mix a drop of flat base with the whole bottle of XF-18!

sounds like you are applying the paint too thick. thin the paint with thinners and apply just enough to cover. even better i find , is to spray with rattle can. mask off around door and window trims and again, only apply enough to cover. this is what i do, so hope it helps.
