Ignition Problems in my 99 Alero

Last night i went to Jewel to do some shopping, and by accident i turned the car off while in drive. Then i just simply shifted to park and took the key out. Now when i put they key in the ignition seems stuck, i cannot turn the key at all. They key is not worned out. The is no Pin Hole as some people suggested that i should stick a pin into a "Pin hole" and should fix the problem. I disconnected the battery thinking mabye somehow the ignition will re set its sell ( im not good when it comes to cars :) ) Should i just TOW the friking car to a mechanic or is there a work around. Is there a way to unlock the shifter without the key being turned? Im thinking mabye if i shift back to drive the problem would fix its slef but i cannot do it as they damage is allready done.
