JDM Engines? Japan and Indonesian quality difference?

I am having a hard time finding this information on the net. I'm looking for some facts on why is there a different quality between an engine straight from Japan and one that is JDM-spec but came from Malaysian and Indonesia.

I know Japan has taxes and emission laws that force people to dump their old cars and engines.

And I know in Malaysia/Indonesia they are like here and just run them into the ground.

But these are not facts...these are just rumors what someone else told me. I don't know what are the specifics on why the Japanese emission laws create so many still good healthy engines to be left.

So if anyone knows FACTS please let me know. Let everyone know actually...so that everyone knows the difference between a good low mileage Japanese JDM engine and that of one that came from Malaysia/Indonesia that might have like 200,000 miles and is a ticking time bomb ready to go off.

actually those are not rumours those are facts.
Japan has emission laws forcing action at 35,000 miles and Malaysia doesnt and still has access to j-spec autos.
Japanese car owners have the choice to
A dump there engine at 35k and get a new one
B pay hefty fines after 35k
Most japanese car owners realize this and dont take very good care of there cars. IE instead of changing the oil every 3000 miles they change it every 10,000 miles.This abuse of there engine leads to when you go to install the JDM engine in your car when the vtec kicks in or when pushing it to the limits smoke will come from the exhaust.
So your low mileage japanese engine might be more used than a well maintained Indonesian engine with slightly higher mileage.

On the other hand Malaysia and such dont have these laws and will in general take better car of there cars.
The only place i know of to buy an engine online from Malaysia is FlashOptions.com. and they wont ship straight to you. So shipping costs would be a bitch. :comprage1

Talking to an importer, I found that the "emissions" laws that Japan had dealing with disposing of older cars, has been non existant for quite a while, and it is still used because it sounds good and comforts people into spending their hard earned money on an engine that no one really knows how many miles it has on it. I don't doubt it since there is still a large amount of B16A's from the 89-91's still readily availible, and they continue to be imported.

Well I talked to someone who lived in Japan. Japanese people aren't like us. They are actually happy when it comes to changing tires n doing maintenance. They have the mind set that doing that gives their cars "more life". Funny people LOL.

So maintenance is not an issue for them...they love doing it. And as far as this one friend of mine who just came back from some military service is Japan...that emission law thing is still in effect. It helps their automotive economy by doing that.

Whoever told you it wasnt in effect, was just trying to sell you a more expensive USDM motor to fatten their own wallet. There are actually several differant "taxes" that are placed on a vehicle. Not to mention to even get a vehicle you have to prove you have a parking space (imagine Japan like a giant NYC...) since space is such a limited quanity, the price for a parking space can be high.

If you live/work in the city guess what? Thats where you parking space has to be - you cant pull the old "I live/work in the city but I park my car 20 mies away" crap where parking spaces may only cost a few hundered a year, compared to a thousand dollars a month in the city!

Although never really looked at as a "poor" nation, just think they are people there too! How many of you have been without a job for a few months? Now imagine you have a $1000 a month parking space... think you are going to keep your car? I dont think so!

Well since i wasn't buying anything from him, I doubt that. I guess he was misinformed, or a bunch of other people on the other side of the planet were.

How do you know I dont live in Japan? Or ever have lived in Japan... I havent, but you dont know that. Factual information, about the matter is on the books in Japan, not on Purehonda.com, or whatever other site/person you seem to hold as some godlike authority on Japanese emissions laws.

I've already said what I have to say, if you want to keep being a big baby about it go ahead, :thefinger

And I said that the guy who imports motors was informed of that, didn't say I took it as law...and another for good measure :thefinger
