Usually I would take cars made by German over American. However there are extreme few cases such as Z06 or Viper.

I'd have to agree with you on that one.

I suppose you can also put Saleen S7 onto that list of must have American Car.

Actually, this got me thinking. For an entire 5 minutes. And I still can't think of a single American car that I would really like to own. Not a single damn one.

Name me a stock car made in Germany that can outperform Chevy Z06 in every aspect at the price it is offered.

I just looked at something within the same price range and i figured with 349bhp and a 0-62 mph (0-100kph) in 4.8....and i hear it handles really well and is fun as hell to drive.....
And the M3 prob won over the Z06 the same reason why the 360 Modena beat out a 911 turbo in a comparison in either R/T or C/D i dont remember....mind you the 911 had (slightly) better numbers in almost everything, and cost something like 30K less.....but it was just the feel of the ferrari....one editor said "Theres nothing like that Ferrari snarl".....that said theres more to cars then just numbers. I mean look at the Z06 interior compared to the M3....no contest, and the seats? come on...etc...Now dont get me wrong the Z06 is an amazing car (esp for the money), and there isnt another car on teh planet id love more to be in and drive around town droppin' the clutch at 3000rpm all day... i mean as jay leno says about his z06 "If anything happens to it, its easy to fix. Its a GM"

M3 won because it was the car that stole all the editor's heart. However it did not out-perform Z06.

M3 have better interior quality over Z06 which is true. Handling wise I would give it to M3 as well. However performance wise it's not even close.

Personally, I'd go for German engineering. I love BMW, but not so much Mercedes. They just have that refined power and elegence about them. I sat in a Corvette at a recent auto show and I didn't like the feel of it at all. Wanna know something interesting? I've never driven an American car. I've ridden in one sure, but never driven. I like my imports (German, Japanese, Swedish or otherwise!) :D

If you were to take an american car and a german car that were both under 50k, who do you think would win in all aspects of racing? Duh American. more bang for your buck. TRIVIA: does anyone know why vw's early cars were Air cooled? reply if you know the answer.

..that was the '01 Z06 too, not the 405hp version...it was MT, by the way
Yeah, I know how sophisticated and precise German engineering is, but nothing can match the raw power of a good ole American V8:)

the answer(i think) to your random trivia question is...
... VW built cars that Hitler used in north africa. they used air instead of water so that the water would not evaporate in the high temperatures of africa.

back to the facts...
the zo6 beat the m3 in that mt issue, and tied in one test, and still did not come out ahead b/c you could seat four in an m3.
when was their a question on seating capacity?
the title of the test was something about being "king of the performance hill"... not how many asses does your car fit at a high rate of speed...
i love german engineering... it always seems like it is laid back, while the japanese engineering seems very on the edge... turbos tuned out, etc... when you get a superhighend jdm car, they are usually tunable, but for example, the s2k is fairly limited w/o changing the major structure (comp ratio)...
while most german cars that are super highend always have a laid back, non highstrung attitude...
i am officially rambling b/c i know what i meant, i just cant say it...
basically, german cars are laid back, while japanese seem more edgy... small motors, peaky tq, etc... not that they are all that way, but that is kinda the characterization...

close enough! Hitler did use vw's in northern africa during world war II, he wanted a car that didn't depend on a radiator since a radiator is easy to shoot and with out one no car could servive in africa! If you ever want to piss off a auto parts salesman, just ask him for an upper radiator hose for a 70's Bug!

I think I am going to call auto zone tommorow, and as them for one. :bloated:
If I could get any car under 50k I would only consider the Z06, and the M3. Would be a really hard choice though. Would probably be the M3 though because it can seat 4, and has a trunk. But as a second car I would get The Z06.

I think you misunderstood my comment. Someone said look at NASA and the space program as an example of American engineering. My argument, is that this doesn't apply [to the automobile engineering debate] since Japan (and Germany?) was not allowed to have an army because of WW2--let alone research military technology (unless it served the interest of the US). Case in point, everybody has heard about the BMW airplane story. So of course the US and Russia has better military and space technology. Also, the big push for the space program was mainly a result the USSR launching Sputnik and it became an aspect of the Cold War. We were racing with the Russians. It's simple economics, competition leads to better products and more research. It's no wonder the US has such advanced military and space technology.
Disclaimer: I'm not a historian, so some of this may be coming out of my ass.

*shrug* I dunno?!? I just assumed automobile engineering since it's in the Cars in General section and Car Comparison subsection. That's why I pointed out why the space program example didn't make sense.
