Skyline Tail lights for 92-96 lude?

I noticed this picture, it's from Extremedimensions.com, I was looking at body kits and such for a 92 lude, I might get Monday, if it's not sold yet, anyway, I noticed a lude with Skyline-like tail lights... I'm not that great with spotting model years on preludes yet, and this looks like it had some trunk work.
Now for my question, does anyone know where I can get the parts so I can do this? I love the skyline's tail lights and I think it looks really good, maybe that's a much newer lude but has the same kit mounts as a 92? Lemme know if any of you know where I can find this, thanks.

Ok, I know now that is a 97+ Prelude... I read someone has R33 tail lights for a 92 lude... Could anyone point me to where I can find this conversion? Or any Skyline tail light conversion for that matter?

No, you're wrong... that's a 4th gen lude, same as yours, and not a 5th gen.

Really? Thanks for pointing that out... I saw on cardomain a 98 I think, that had tail lights JUST like that, I matched it by the trunk. Like I said I'm new, so I can make a mistake like that. You wouldn't happen to know where I could find those eh? :bigthumb:

That is one of the better taillight conversions I've seen. There's a civic coupe with skyline conversion around here and it looks like shit.
It's a 4th gen for sure. He cut the trunk up quite a bit, had to fill in the top corners. Nothing to extensive though.. the outside looks like it fits to the curve of the car quite well.

You can't buy tail light conversion "kits"..... everything has to be custom molded, but here is a link for the tail lights http://www.optauto.com/webstore/product_information.asp?number=OAS-TLSR33&variation=&aitem=6&mitem=14&back=yes&dept=53

I was told by a buddy that it's gonna cost about $5,000 to have them installed, is that realistic? :eek7:

Does that include painting the whole car to match?

Didn't even think to ask about that. I just mentioned I wanted to have it done and he said "Yeah, that's gonna cost $5,000 just to have them installed." so I imgine not... would it really cost THAT much just to get them to fit??? When I get the money yeah, but god, that's more than I'm paying for the car, and it's for Tail lights! :bloated:

Guess u didnt sense the exageration when he said it would cost $5000? I'm not sure how much it would be, but find a body shop that will actually do it then get an estimate. A lot of body shops don't like dealing with that kind of stuff... the shop we always go to wouldnt even paint and install my ViS bumper because it was aftermarket and fiberglass. If there's a tuner shop around where u live that would be ur best bet.

You have to think though.. about 600 for the taillights alone.. so much for the materials... labor... Still doesn't come out to 5000 in my mind. For 5000, i'd take a class and learn to do it myself.

For real, that's insane... when I think of it with taillights + install I'd say maybe $1,000 ... that sounds right to me... I dunno. Paint I'm gonna do the car as a whole so I'm gonna do a kit, hood, fenders all that in one swoop rather than 2 or 3 times just to paint one part. :bigthumb:

Options Auto Salon has them:

Ebay might have a better deal:

RICE :uhoh: this is one of the most fucked up things you can do to a prelude, all that money for taillights? I say if you really want R33 taillights, buy an R33, simple as that, those R33 kits and tails just add extra weight, put some of that cash into the engine, oh and that primered lude looks anything but "clean" to me, keep it simple and don't fuck up the already nice styling of the prelude, sorry if i'm ranting but the one thing i can't stand is ghetto primered kits on nice cars, especially a lude :(

There's one opinion. I'm sure he can afford to bring an R33 to the states as well. If he likes the look, so be it; to each his own.
My car will be primer in color when i'm doing the bodywork and paint. I would rather drive it around primered too, instead of just leaving it in the garage so YOU don't have to look at it.
Suggestion to everyone: run all your ideas past InitialJRift to see if he likes it before you do it. wouldn't want anyone to do what they like and upset him.

i read a lot of replies towards conversions as mine...like, if u want these lights on ur car, why dont u just buy the car..and this n that, whine like little bitches...i mean, u make it sound as if its so simple to just go out and buy a R33..if that was the case i wouldnt have a prelude..and the styling of the prelude, is beautiful all around..i didnt kno wanting different tail lights makes it ugly...first word i saw was "RICE" in ur post... ....i like riding around in my "ghetto primered" prelude..cuz that reminds me that its not fuckin finished yet :twak: ....ahh, enough complainin here...sorry to come off harsh and off topic, lol

if you think the prelude is a beautiful car all around then why would you cut her up just to put another car's tails on her, i couldn't imagine doing that to mine, but i guess i'm just too much of a fan of ludes, and i don't go for the whole half skyline half lude look, just my opinion, and if your car is primered, i would hope it's sitting in a garage somewhere waiting to be painted, i couldn't imagine driving around my lude with a huge kit hanging from it that's primered up, i'd be embarrassed, but i guess if swapping other car's parts with yours is your thing, then do it, u can be part of the HIN show car crowd, i think most people would agree that spending all that money on something that is useless and merely for show is pretty fucked up, buy something useful for your car with that instead of trying to stand out from the crowd, u might as well paint your cars orange or lime neon :uhoh: i'm for aftermarketing shit just stuff that's made for a prelude, conversions are a waste, unless it's in the same "family" persay, like USDM to JDM tegs, RX-7's to Efini's, or IS300 to Altezza conversions u know, not a honda accord to a nissan skyline, it just doesn't work

InitialJRift
10-03-2003, 02:16 PM
sure, NSX brakes actually serve a purpose, spending thousands of dollars on GT-R tails is just a waste, the only purpose they serve is for your car to stand out and for you to say look i have skyline taillights on my prelude lol there's a difference between the two, but if you're a show car kinda guy i guess ricing out your car is a must, i just like things clean

Then maybe I don't want to be a "real" tuner.. Maybe I want to do my own thing. If I have to limit myself to be a "real" tuner, then what's so great about it?
Nobody laughs at the Teutuls for their custom bikes. I guess you can't have both with you. Why not have a car that runs good, and looks good. Not everything has to be a racecar. If you just dismiss things as shit because they aren't built the way you like, and have a taillight conversion, then why don't you just turn around and walk the other way, Adolf..
BTW: I'm a member of Honda-Tech, Prelude Online, NWstreetracing, NWhonda, automotiveforums, Honda CRX Si, and I probably forgot a few. I haven't heard anyone in those forums laugh at someone because they have good bodywork.
BTW2: The Jun prelude is half lime green. Laugh at that.

i goto H-T and PO.com and so what?
its nice to see everyone wanting to tune their cars for the HP, and simple kits. i didnt buy my car to tune and get some measly 250-300hp and so on hp from its 190hp 4 bangin engine(assuming its Vtec). 1/4 miles and HP isnt everything in the world. at least to me it isnt. i would have bought a 300ZX TT or a Supra TT if i wanted an import car with balls.
i'm not saying customizing my exterior is everything. but i like the "show" scene more than i like the "tuning" scene, or whatever u wanna call it. which is why i did what i did to my car. and yes, my tail lights actually serve a purpose, they let you know i'm braking, reversing, and turning. :loser:
i respect your opinion, but let me do my thing and let me be happy with what i have going. i dont need anyone to say, u should have spent your money on this and that, and then say " i would have done this, but thats just me"... i read stuff like that on almost every board i goto, it plays like a broken record.
all i ask is no one bash on anyones work, and tell people they should have done this instead. whether its body work, or engine work. we should all be respected with what we wanna do, whether people think its distasteful or not. :)

256HP is a decent number for a track car. It probably wasn't made for straight line performance. Think of the handling capabilities this car has.
