yep im 17 and was planning on taking good care of it:) whats the best type of subs to get and sound the best in a 93 Maxima?

and if i do get it i'll be sure to take some pics of it and show ya'll :)

btw, just wonderin but approximately how much mileage can they usually run til, cuz the one i might be getting is a 93 with around 103,000 miles..and i don't want to have to overhaul it or get new engine put in it within 3 or 4 yrs....

Maxima's are great. I've seen/heard of ones lasting up to 250,000 miles and beyond..with good care of course. Not much to say with drawbacks...transmission isn't as strong as current models, but a lot of drawbacks on the maximas. as for subs, its your choice of sub to put into your own car. Higher end subs will require a stronger amp AND A CAPACITOR as well (1/2 farad or 1 farad) so it wont kill your battery.

determining quality of sound systems doesnt have anything to do with the car...its the setup you choose.

whatever you choose, research and choose wisely before doing so.

I went with Alpine set up all around with (2) 12" Alpine Type R Subs with a 4 channel V-series alpine amp and a 2 channel kenwood amp for the subs. Alpine type R speakers all around.

here are pics of my car and set up. check it out.

SE or GXE?

The 93 SE has a DOHC V6 with 190 hp, a tranny with VLSD, an option for 5-speed manual, and stock disk brakes all around.

93 GXE has a SOHC V6 with 160 hp, no VLSD, auto only, and rear disks only if you get ABS.

Personally I prefer the SE 5-speed.

Some things to look out for:
Exhaust studs have a tendancy to break
Bose Stereo amps can fail
There is a variable timing advance mechanism that may start to make noise.

Check this page for more info: http://www.geocities.com/bracecraig/maxima/vtc/vtc.html

Good luck.

 thanx! its awesome! my Jensen cd player (that im assuming previous owner put in it) glows red in the dark. very kewl!....

oh btw, it's automatic but on the shifter it has a lil red button on the bottom of it, what's thats for?

do 93 maximas have keyless entry cuz on the dash next to my gas gauge and speedometer, etc it has a thing thats flashes "Security" what does that mean? if it has a keyless entry and alarm than i never got the clicker for it from the used car dealer...he said he only got the one key when he got the car.... so if it does have keyless entry and alarm where could i get a cheap clicker that i could program to work with the built in keyless entry and alarm system?

thanx

If its a 93 SE, you should have keyless entry. And the 'security' button always flashes....no matter what....unless the car is started.

The little red button on the bottom of your shifter is for overdrive.

get a cheap clicker from good ole www.ebay.com search for Maxima keyelss remote or something to that effect.

no the red button im talknig about it says sutmhing like shifter release or something, the overdrive button on up in the midde of the shifter... and only problem is, i don't have credit card and my parents don't buy anything off the net....so anybody know where i could get a universal remote keyless entry that's programable to work for my 93 SE?

No, there is no stock keyless remote. If you want to add one that is possible.

The security light will flash when you have a door open, or locks unlocked. When everything is buttoned up tight it will light up solid.

The button you are talking about is incase your brakes fail and lock up, because it's not SUPOSED to shift out of park unless the brake is held in, it's incase you need to have it towed.

It could have been added aftermarket, but they did not come from the factory with keyless remote.

Mine has remote unlock/lock/trunk/start. But I had to install it.

Hey guys I just joined this forum, but I've been a Maxima owner for almost two years now. Just wanted to clarify something that I read here:

Okay...This isn't at all correct. 89-94 Maximas all have stock securities and alarms. The GXEs have a keyless entry right on the door handles. All SEs did not even come with this option. This is for all OEM alarms:

The 89-94 SE alarm system is turned on by locking the doors and shutting them. All four doors and the trunk must be shut for the alarm to activate. The "securty" light on the dashboard will turn on until all doors are shut. When the doors are shut, it was stay on for 60 seconds. When it shuts off, the alarm is activated, but not until it shuts off.
Do deactivate the alarm, you must unlock the car with the key.
The alarm can only be triggered while it is activated and is triggered by beaking a window, hitting the car hard enough, or by unlocking the doors without the key (ie. reaching in and unlocking the doors from the inside). Also, if you open the trunk while the alarm is activated, if you leave it open for too long (I'm not quite sure on the actual time limit) the alarm will sound. There are no OEM keychain keyless entry systems for 89-94 Maxima, but you can have an aftermarket one installed. Hope that clarifies this!

I can not vouch on the keyless entry fobs or not. I was thinking some did come with it but maybe not. Now, for the alarm, there are no glass break sensors or shock sensors on ANY Nissan. You can beat the snot out the car until the cows come home and it will never make a sound unless you trip a pin switch in the trunk, hood, or doors. If it does, then it is aftermarket. I have sold Automate add on alarms from DEI at Nissan dealers. You'd never know they are there until you set one off. It is completely different than the OEM alarm because it does have impact sensors. But, you arm it just like the OEM alarm so you may or may not have a remote.

I actualy assumed that part about the sensors because I left my front hood open and when I shut it, it triggered the alarm. Also, my alarm has triggered after leaving the trunk open for too long when the alarm is activated.

This could very well be the case with my car. I am the fourth owner and the sales receipt is long gone. Were these alarms offered to Maximas back in 1994? Also, are these alarms installed in the same place as OEM ones?
