Expectant father looking for good used car around 8K

I've done a lot of searching but it's getting overwhelming at this point and I would like some opinions. I've always driven Subarus but I'm ready to step outside my comfort zone to get something that is hopefully better on gas since I don't really need AWD all the time. I'm looking for something dependable, good on gas, roomy enough for a child, under 100k miles, and something with decent looks. I have about 8K to spend. So far, I've been looking at 07-08 Nissan Altimas but I was wondering if you guys thought there might be something better. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
