Hello. Have a 2000 Tauras and the keyless fob stopped working today. Changed batteries and still no good. Got two others from the house and they dont work either. Changed the fuse under the dash but no go. Tried turning the key on and off to program and the docks locked and unlocked so I know it was in the programing mode. Any thoughts?

Do you know if your Taurus has the perimeter anti-theft system as well as the remote keyless entry?

If it has the perimeter anti-theft as well, roll down the driver's window, lock the doors, close all doors, reach in through the open window and pull the inside door handle to open the driver's door. If the GEM is working, the horn should start to honk and lights flash. Be ready with your ignition key to put it in the ignition and turn to the Run position to silence the alarm. If this is the case and none of the fobs work, you may have an issue with the GEM itself and it will require a professional scan tool to further diagnose.

If you do not have the security system but just remote keyless entry, try the interior trunk release button. The trunk release feature works through the GEM on vehicles with remote keyless entry so if the trunk release works, that indicates the GEM is at least getting power.

I guess the first question I should have asked is for you to confirm that this is a factory installed remote keyless entry system rather than an aftermarket keyless entry or alarm system.

Interested in this thread. My 2000 Taurus has the same problem. I have the keychain fob for keyless entry, and the factory installed perimeter security system (which still works-if I press the alarm button the car starts honking.) The open trunk button stopped working also. The fob started to intermittently not work at locking/unlocking, so I would use the autolock/unlock button on the driver's door-then eventually that button did not work either, and now I always use my key to lock and unlock. I did replace the batteries in the fob as my first attempt at a solution. The door buttons for electric windows still work. When I exit the car, lock and close the door, the dome light remains on as normal, and turns off on its own. I can press the lock/unlock buttons on the fob, and it will immediately shut off the dome light without delay, but no lock/unlock functions remain.
