Help, have 05 suburban has been at the shop several times and seen different mechanics. Tansmission has been rebuilt and transfer case has been changed out. Drive shaft checked out and uv joints checked out. My suburban makes a loud clunking noise under very light acceleration while taking off from a complete stop, the mechanics can not figure out what it is from and I am tired of throwing $$ around and it not fixing the problem. Any suggestions would be helpful thank you. Noise sounds as if it is coming from behind dash or under gas pedal. I have a video of the sound I can email it to you its not letting me post it on here.

how many miles have you gone since the transfer case fluid was replaced ? what is the color of the transfer case fluid ? what fluid was put in the transfer case, when it was repaired / replaced ?

get an idea of where I'm going with this ?

you have a clunk on start like at a stop light ? mostly when cold does it most ?

Ive drove it maybe 30 miles since the transfer case change. I dont know what fluid they put back in it but I know it is red because it leaked out since the case was put in I took it back and was told when I engaged it in auto 4wd it pushed down the case and knocked off something they fixed it but I haven't tried going into 4wd since will try later today and see what happens. It was not a new transfer case they took one out of another suburban which did not match up, the connectors didn't match so somehow they used my same motor into the used transfer case to make it work. I have no idea what they've done honestly or even if its going to work.

well the problem is this uses a blue fluid not dexron III............
the repairers you had do this are idiots. these use TRAC II GM transfer case fluid.

also the transfer case is specific to your vehicle since the computer talks to it. they put the wrong one in [ connectors different ] then I just do not know what to tell you to do with / about these idiot repair shop[s].

now to get the correct transfer case this will cost you 2000.00....

I figured this would not work and I know nothing about cars. The car lot I brought it from were the ones to fix it without charging me but I was on my own with putting a new transmission in which cost me $2400. I was quoted $2700 for a new transfer case through chevy dealership :(. Its messed up more now than before. Before all I heard was the noise but they are saying its not related to transfer case, it's still there but now it says service 4wd when I go into 4wd auto and in 4wd it seems to be pulling hard or may not be engaging at all? Tried to say it was my fault after they put in the rigged transfer case because I engaged auto 4wd while moving but it says in the book it can be turned on at any speed. I think they jusy messed it up more. I hate putting another $2 + grand into the vehichle aftet just getting transmission when I've only had it for 6 months and noticed all this the day after. Thank you for your help. I was thinking the same thing.

I think if its under $5000.00 you can take them to small claims court for the cost they charged you,I would suggest you do this.

on the operation of the 4WD you can put this in 4wd hi and auto 4WD at any speed.

just let up off the gas pedal to reduce any stress. never use 4WD LOW as this is when you are plowing or pulling a tree out of the ground. you must be stopped or going 1 MPH....

DO NOT USE ANY 4WD SELECTIONS ON DRY SOLID PAVEMENT.

using this 4wd on solid dry pavement will rapidly wear out the drive train...

I only use 4wd when it is snowing out and snow on the road surface.

sometimes pulling a boat up a steep ramp that has sea grass on it etc...

Thank you I've only had to use 4wd a few times and that was in the snow. Ive been testing it in my driveway which is gravel to see if it works right since the other case was put it, in whichbit does not. When I go into auto it says to service 4wd and I have to completely cut it off to go back into 2wd same thing in 4wd hi, don't even hear the case move? Looks like ill be seeing a mechanic soon.

when you get this corrected post the results of the failure of these mechanics that messed up the drivetrain. just remember that the transfer case requires trac II fluid not dexron III. some repair shops will use dexron III because its cheaper.....
problem is it is not the correct fluid. call the GM dealership and with your vin # confirm exactly what to use . as far as I know this FLUID is only available from the GM dealerships .
