was wondering about putting either in my 98 and was thinking a supercharger would be better due to the high compression ratio. is this true? the car only has a cold air intake but is in the process of other modifications. any imput on my super/turbo charge dilema would be great- thanks

Your reasoning is a litle off here. A supercharger is no better for a high compression engine than a turbo would be. Both do the same thing, force air into the engine, each one just does it a little differently. A supercharger will encounter the same problems in a high compression engine as a turbo would. Detonation can occur with either. The compression ratio (10:1) of your car isn't that high, and you could run some sort of forced induction without cutting the compression ratio, as long as you keep the boost at a reasonable level and the fuel and ignition properly tuned. Deciding between a turbo and a supercharger based on resistance to detonation would be a bad way to decide, decide based on your goals. I, personally, prefer turbochargers as they don't suffer from parasitic loss as a result of being belt driven off the crank. And turbo lag is an issue that can be dealt with. Read this (http://www.automotivearticles.com/get.php?action=getarticle&articleid=5) to help you decide between the two.

if you visit prelude online.com (without the space), they have a list of turbocharged and supercharged preludes. here are are the stats:

15 out of 23 boosted ludes have blown their engines with a turbo compard to 8 jrsc ludes with a blown motor.

15 out of 24 boosted ludes have NOT blown their engines with the jrsc compared to only 9 turbo ludes without a blown motor.

you can interpret that as you please. the same thing can be said in different ways. those are facts, not opinion. go visit the site and you can see for yourself. just thought i'd throw this out on the table open for discussion. anything is possible with either direction you take.

If you keep the boost at a reasonable level...
There shouldn't be any problems.
Unless you decide to reinforce your engine and such, then you can go with a higher boost.
My friend is running about 300hp (about 280whp) and he hasn't had any problems yet. I think he bought the kit off www.maxrev.com
