I have a 2003 Montana (same as Venture). The driver side window will get stuck half way down and the motor will grind. You can then run it back up, but when closed it will grind again.
Does this sound like a bad motor that has stripped gears or a bad regulator that is binding?

I would pull the cover on the door and watch what is going on before purchasing parts.

Yep already did this and couldn't determine what the cause was.
Any other suggestions on how to diagnose between motor and regulator?

Usually the "scissor arms" twist and cause the regulator to bind up, in turn causing all kinds of problems. If that's the case, the arms can be purchased separate from the door module (that's how the regulator is serviced). If the regulator is damaged, a new module runs about 700.00. All the used ones I have seen needed the arms replaced also.

Yes, this is one of the worst power window designs you will ever see......it was a whole module....not just a motor and regulator......kicker was, on the earlier models you could remove the motor for replacement, but most guys broke the cheap plastic retainers and ended up with a whole module anyways.....what the hell were they thinking?
