2 door golf discontinued for 2014?

looks like in the us they aren't selling 2 door golfs anymore
but they are on the vw uk website
this is beyond stupid.
my '07 rabbit has over 180,000 miles on it. it runs fine but i was hoping to someday replace it with another 2 door golf. so now i'm in this quandary of should i run out and buy one of the last 2013 2 door golfs?
why would they just stop selling them? is this some kind of psychological game? is vw really just effing with me? and they're gonna bring it back in 2015?
