milky substance

I've notice a milky substance on my oil cap and inside the tube where you add the oil, what can be causing this. 2001 Silverado 5.3.

with the white sludge my guess is your using non synthetic oil. when water gets into the crankcase with these oils you get sludge and acid build up.

replace the PCV and check all those crank case hoses.

if you have a cold air intake and your temps are below 40 deg f this will create more of this.

so I was correct with my guess your using non synthetic oil ?
Now this is why I dumped that dino non synthetic decade ago.

You can change over to synthetic oil . I would use the mobil 1 ,,, 5-30wt. I buy at costco when on sale. $28usd for a 6 qt case. also this oil is now dexos approved GM spec. I have to say that this GM spec mobil 1 oil is the best I ever used. engine has little noise when cold , and cold to me is zero deg f .. you will find after a few hundred miles faster starts faster engine crank. much less friction and even a slight MPG gain. I go 8,000mi on the oil change and replace the oil filters at 4,000miles..

with condensation in the crankcase with synthetic the oil does not mix with the water therfore no white sludge ...
before replacing the non synthetic add 6 OZ of marvel mystery oil to crankcase run vehicle a few hundred miles and then do oil change. allow extra time for the hot engine oil to drain all that goop out.
use pure one ,ac delco , napa gold, wix oil filters ...
