Looks a bit ruff where the hood meets the front bumper. Perhaps you should sand it evenly. Other then that, it's hard to state an opinion yet..

Whut do u mean?? U dont make sense.

06-23-2003, 06:54 PM
I think he does make sense.
I think he's asking if you need clear to polish the paint.
Because Mettalic paints don't polish well you give them a couple of coats of clear.
Sorry I can't help, because I've never used Tamiya ts gold.

Yeh....that's what I meant...sorry for not being more clear :sly:
I am thinking of spraying my next car TS-21 too....but jus wondering if a clear coat is needed before sanding/polishing due to the metallic nature of the paint.... is it considered metallic? the gold paint?
thanks

I have no clue about the clear coat thing, but if u call that color metalic u seem correct to me, cuz i think it is metalic too, cuz it has sparkles in it.

Finally got some more progress on my model, i painted the rims a custom color i mixed, its painted Black with Gold sparkles, but it is mostley noticible in light. I just mixed black with alot of gold and it just came out. I also had to custom mount the intercooler, cuz this body kit is shaped diff. from the orignal kit that came with the model so the intercooler was set at the original spot, so i had to modify it so the intercooler was straight and right in the middle of the spot. Also painted the rear wing gold and black. Tell me whut ya guys think so far.

Well that u, i dont want to do that cuz i want the primer to air out, did u know that Primer shrinks? And some times it can make ur paint job get messed up. So.... im going to leave it for 24 hours out to air.

sand the primer with 15000 grit to get it smoothed out after it dries... btw primer drys in about three hours, it does not need to be aired out because it is porous... its basically dries upon contact unless if you over coat and there is too thick of a layer and it runs b/c of the laccqour.
I reccommend the white tamiya stuff next time, the extra fine primer, i think it works a bit better, it can tack onto the paint pretty good.
Looks good btw kidd,
Peter

well it is high, but depends on what you are doing.
Micro-Mesh makes grit up to that high, and if u think 15000 is too high, then what can i say, the point in using primer is to fill holes and gaps... when u use a high grit paper, you are massaging the holes in and filling at the same time... so 15000 grit is like rubber on a cloth, that is how the 15000 that I use come in.
but for me, anything to do with the body once the paint is or laccqour is on I would use nothing less than 12000 grit... juss to do a safer job...
Blowncivic1320, i'll dont think tissue paper is quite like 15000, but if you are using tissue paper to sand and that is comparative to 15000, i liked to see what kind of tissue it is.
but look for this stuff guys, no joke Micro Mesh Cushioned Abrasives... come in like 8 pack... grit 3600 all the way to 15000... seems much, but its a much better job.
Final line... use high end stuff on the primer... but the final shine you can sand with something less grit

I'm not one to pay $30 for a set of 5000+ polishing cloths when I can grab a set of 2500 grit wetsanding papers for $5 and bottle of polish for $2.99  .
Basically, if shorty had never bought the model masters/testors primer in the first place this wouldn't happen. If you don't have the right tools to do the job right, then wait until you do.
