Gas question

I had a friend that said he add 93 oct. to his car with a oct. booster and he blow his fuel pump. Now me I did not think it had anything to do with the gas he put in the car.
My question is if I add 110 oct. to my stock car will it fuck my car up.
The reason I wan to know is on this other forum the guy said he add 93 to his car and go a faster time it was a big increase.
so when I go to the track I can take those v8s out with my stock 4 banger and 110 oct. (just a joke for people that take shit to the head)

high octane should not bothre the fuel pump... as for the 110 octane, i know you said it was for jokes... but... 110 will not make your car go faster by itself. as a matter of fact your car does not need 110 unless it is very highly modified and I doubt that it is (not trying to be mean) the octane rating has to do with how fast the gas burns. 87 will burn faster than 93, 93 will burn faster than 110 and so on. in theory 87 octane would be the best if your engine could handle it... but obviously you need to run the fuel that keeps your engine from detonating under load

sorry I totally forgot to answer your question... no 110 will not mess up your car but it also wont help... it is a waste of money unless you have really high compression, radically advanced timing... etc
in my race Miata I run 14 degree advance on the timing and stock compression... 93 octane is plenty for it

All higher octane gas does, is resist predetonatoin better, it DOES NOT clean your engine, it DOES NOT make your car faster. If you are running higher compression or a turbo, where engine heat is higher, you want to run higher octane, since it will resist detonating before it should. END OF STORY

not to be a dick but I think the attitude was a little unneeded

Then don't comment, There was no attitude, just trying to disspell some bullshit. If your that sensitive that you think there was ATTITUDE because I highlighted some IMPORTANT parts of the post, then maybe you need to stay off the net, since it is filled with big, scary, attitude filled e thugs. (that is an attitude)

So are u saying that 87 oct it better then 100 oct for a semi stock engine?I might be crazy but when I raced my friends ls integra against my civic EX he won by about two car length.this time we ran again but I used 100 oct and race agian....he still won but this time we both notice that He didn't win by two car length. One in half car length almost two. But like I SAID WE BOTH NOTICE A DIFFERENCE. OH.......... I hope that wasn't too much attitude.........JUST KIDDING man:)

First off let me say, wow, I am a member of several other forums and this is the only one where people can't seem to help eachother without unneeded insults/attitude. When people come on places like this and ask a question I'd like to think the reason they are asking is because; a.) They don't know the answer. and b.) They would like to find out the truth. Now time and time again I see a question asked and the answer is rediculous. Obviously this is not always the case, but a lot of the time. Are you people forgetful of the fact that yes, at one time in your lives, you didn't used to be as knowledgeable as you are now? At one time you might have asked the same question? You guys like to bash on "The Fast and The Furious" when it seems like some of you idolize Vince. (you know, the hot head)
Oh and as for attitude, I can get one of those too... but on the computer? Come on, what are you going to prove? Really now, what are you going to do? Insult me? You MUST be kidding. (no attidude, thanks)

Had nothing to do with the gas. As jcrx already stated.....higher compression= need for higher octane. Read your manuals. It says which octane level gas is suitable for your car. Nothing higher is necessary unless boosted or built for higher coompression.

im missing the point of this story. you used 87 the first time and lost by 2 car lengths. you raced again and lost by about 2 car lengths. this story in fact proves that having a higher octance gas in your motor will not help you win races, if your car does not need it. miataracer and jcrx are both correct, it wont mess your car up, but it also wont help anything out, except for making you poorer.

I ment that when I used 100 oct i lost buy 15ft from the back of his car. When I used 87 oct I still lose but I lost by (example) 20ft. Now you say that it won't help with minor mods?I guess then that I must have gotton a good start. Probaly the VTEC right?

I said "in theory" 87 octane should make more hp than higher octane for the simple fact that it burns faster, faster burn = more complete combustion as long as you do not get detonation, keep in mind these differences are tiny, and in a drag race as you are talking about the difference of a few car lengths can be for a number of reasons; shifts, reaction time, tire spin at launch, etc...

:iagree: Each race is NOT the same... the second race may have had different shift points and so on. If you really believe this is some super fuel for your car then go ahead and spend your money on it. Might as wekk buy jet fuel for it. If you feel any difference, its all in your head.:comprage1

Damn I really like this guy... He really seems to know his stuff... Of course everyone else here is also very knoledgeable. We ALL started out asking questions though... :bloated:

I think this thread ended about the 3rd reply.. But heh.. Oh well.. Miataracer is right.. I advanced my timing 8 degrees, and ported a bunch of shit... I could run 87oc.. But thats gay.. I'd rather run 93 or greater as a precaution.. But Its not Like Honda super-juice.. Alone .. it wont make your car faster at all.. Thats like saying drinking 2% milk will make you stronger than normal homogenous milk... But hey.. If pressing Premium instead of "Regular" makes you feel better about yourself.. heh.. go for it..
