Ok.. Basically I get my big screen tv today, and i have a bunch of guys coming over on monday to mess around with xbox, dreamcast, and ps2. But my mother will not let me use the big screen we are getting to hook up any of these systems because she thinks it will damage the tv. I am pretty sure that it will not harm the tv but i can't find any documents or anything that will prove to my mom that it does not harm the tv. So can you all pls help me out, if you have found documents or if youve figured this out before..
Thanks,

I have a friend that has been in the same case before... PS2, Dreamcast, Xbox, anything does not harm your television, big screen, HDTV or not, they are made after that was invented, they were meant for that. Both me and my friend own big screens and have hooked up more than one xbox for well over a year on these, my other friend owns a PS2 and a gamecube he has hooked up for well over a year to a big screen, and I used to own a dreamcast I had hooked up for 3 years with no harm. Video games are only hooked up by RCA cables. RCA cables just send an image to the Television that tell it to put out certain colors onto the screen. There is no way possible for an RCA hook up to effect any Big Screen TV. These TVs are made for this sort of entertainment... It is done all the time. Why else would you buy a big screen if not to hook it up to a video game system. It probably explains in the manual of the big screen how to hook up a video game system. Hold on and I will find some resources also.

If your mom wants more detail, I Emailed Sony and am waiting for a response and http://forums.xbox.com/ has many cases of thousands of people on HDTV and widescreen and or bigscreen, even on IMAX tvs

New consoles don't harm TV's. I think your mom is remembering the days of NES and Atari, they would eventually warp the screen, but those are old school.

It can harm some rear porjection tv sets, but isn't that likely too.
Since a projection screen works by a lot of light photons striking the tv surface on the rear, and that causes the picture you see.
But for example if you are playing a game where its always transmitting the same image to part of the screen, like the score counter on sports games, or what weapon is selected in other games, etc.
This means there is a constant flow of photons hitting the same part of the screen, and over time (years), it actually burns this image into the surface of the tv.
But unless you leave your console hooked up constantly 24-7 to your tv, i wouldn't worry about it.

unless its an old projection TV, and you pause it the game or play a game where something stays in the same spot and doesn't leave the screen for a long time, then you have nothing to worry about.
feel the screen, and if it has that ridged texture then you know it is a projection

Will only harm the T.V.If you throw the console at the screen. Some people get far too possessive about 'new' stuff.

no more need to be said, you have to seriously be stupid and do something completely wrong to mess up an HDTV, you have to go out and buy new HDTV wires to hook it up. IF he didn't do that, I bet that screwed it up, moron solved, err problem
