Hey guys nothing too important just getting peoples oppinions on things ive done to my 99 Integra GS (non v-tec).
First mod I did was buy a nice muffler (Hayame Type 2) and chop the cat. Alot of people think that was stupid and alot of other people thought that was a good route to do considering I have stock pipping still on the car. So I thought no cat and a muffler = goodness. Don't really lose any back pressure and I gained alot of torque and HP out of it from what I can tell.
Then just a few days ago I felt the urge to do an intake but I'm strapped for money so I simply removed that big stupid stock intake and bought an OBX Mega Flow filter and slapped it right on the end of my throttle body. I also bought a breather to go with it and put that on too. Reset my ECU and I got some crazy top end. Everyone buys these AEM 300+ dollar intakes and I don't understand. I'm getting probably just as much performance out of my 25$ filter than I would have a 200 some odd dollar intake. Makes a great variety of sound for each range of rpm. 2nd gear it whistles and every other gear it roars. Tell me what you all think etc etc and any downsides/upsides you can think of. Thanks for your comments lataz.

ummmm a muffler?...well if your strapped for cash then thats cool, I personally would have waited and bought a catback
a filter on the throttle body, I have seen that before not sure how good it is but I would have bought a $40 ebay intake and put a K&N filter on it first and foremost.

you sound like my friend choped that cat on a stock exhaust and stock tip
and put a filter at the same place
it sounds good cept for the exhaust it just sounds funny

I wouldn't know obviously but of every exhaust I've ever herd i can honestly say not trying to sound stuck on myself that its the best sounding import (exhaust wise) around. The filter throttle body thing worked wonders im probably never going to change that or spend 80$ on a short ram. as far as I can see theres really no difference except a short ram has a foot of pipe. and the only reason I got a muffler was to make some more free flow along with chopping the cat since after all i do have stock pipping and all. But i also did that cause i knew exactally how it would sound for the most part so im happy with it. Just seing what everyone else thinks of my little experiments

your sucking all of the engines heat right back in the intake manifold, break down and buy an AEM intake, you can get them for 200 $. if your that cheap then u got the wrong hobby, cuz modifying ur car is not cheap. your not gonna get much running stock piping for ur muffler have a muffler shop make you a cat back out of like 2 1/4 inch piping, you'll notice a real difference, same w/ the intake, or go to a hardware store an make ur own intake, but sucking up all of the engines heat you shouldn't notice that much of a difference except a meaner sound.

don't get aem. why would u? so u can get a cool colored one w/ the aem tag on it?
but he is correct about the filter being on ur intake mani. ur gonna see bout 1/2 the power u'd see from a sri/cai. why? cuz most of the intakes u buy have piping that has the correct diameter that allows the best balance between the volume an speed of the incoming air.
a muffler does NOTHING for ur performance. u'll see ur gains from the piping. get some 2 1/4 in piping welded on there, an then u'll see some gains. no offense, but adding a filter and a muffler w/ a cut cat isn't going to show u any gains that u'd be able to actually notice. its more in ur mind. if u dyno'd before/after...u've prolly added 1-3 hp to the wheels, which nobody would ever feel.
take out ur passenger seat (weighs around 30 lbs) an u'll see the same "gains" as u did w/ ur two mods.

thats great, LMFAO. but really, if you want gains, gut ur interior. its free and it works

yea i see what your all saying. but I notice HUGE gains, yes there are pretty noises and all yay me. But I can feel some huge power gains regardless of just a filter on the throttile body. I am taking in hot air yes. but I'm taking in more of it which makes up for what a cold air would do. A cold air intake has to work for air cause you have pipping running all the way to the bottom of ur car. This is direct and gets all the air it wants. My top end is amazing. I have a friend with an integra identical to mine and he has an exhaust and a front mount cold air intake (the intercooler looking one) and i smoke him by 4 car lengths. Used to without that filter on there i would only beat him by 1. I can feel and see the differences. I see where you guys are coming from cause i would probably think the same thing untill I had actually done it. I just wish there was a dyno around here so I could prove it.

well, if ur beating him by 4 cars, its because of the driver, an condition of motor.
to beat a car by 4 cars, it'd take around 40 hp more, which those two things won't do.
i understand ur view about it all, but read wut i said. the piping actually helps u out. it allows for the correct volume an speed of air to enter through the mani.
as for really noticable, plz to dyno it. u'll see that ur only 2-3 over stock, an that its in ur mind. don't worry tho, most ppl think the same way, its not bad, jus don't expect too much from wut u've got.
