i have a 1998 750il the side windows are two pieces of glass put together to cut down road noise. it seems that the laminate/tint on the inside between the two glasses is peeling. from outside the vehicle it looks like a bad tint job peeling. has this happened to any one else out there? any gusses about the cause of this?

The glass you have is the shatterproof option that cost around $3K new in 1998. I have the same option and just spent $625 at a dealer to replace the passenger front window because someone tried to break in, but only was able to smash the outer pane. There is a piece of plexiglass sandwiched between the panes of glass. Have never heard of anything peeling off between the glass. Dealers will charge up to $1150 to replace a window...you can try independent glass shops to get a better price, or if you know the dealer try to get a discount. I could have beat the price they gave me at an independent, but the car was in for other repairs and I had them do the glass at the same time.

My 2001 740il has had 2 of the side windows replaced due to delamination. The windows on the otherside are going. BMW has not stepped up to the plate, and has given me a lot of BS excuses. The bonding between the layers of glass is faulty - plain & simple. BMW needs to upgarde these early problem cars with the newest american made Dupont laminated safety glass, instead of their "fine German leaded crystal."
In 2002 they changed to the newest Dupont "SentryGlas," for some "unknown reason." There is probably a secret BMW memo somewhere that suggested a change in vendors due to all of the
problems with the earlier delaminations and the potential financial liability.
BMW shame on you! Premium car owners get shafted again for buying an upgrade option.
