Porsche 964 C4

It's been a while since I've posted here, but I'm back :) Back with a new project...

This time I got a question to build a Porsche as a birthday gift. Since this model still has to be a surprise I can't (yet) place pictures of the original one. When de model is completed, both result and original car will be show in full glory.

So... let's start with the kit I'll be using:
The Porsche 964 Cup from Fujimi. Besides the Cup parts, the kit also contains all the parts for the streetversion, including the much demanded Cup rims.

The C4 has two exhaust pipes in stead of one, so I started out by creating a recesss for the second tailpipe.

The rest of the body was inspected for sinkholes, which were filled with putty.

As you can see in the picture above, I also removed the doorhandles. They will be replaced by more detailed ones.

Then all parts where primed (including the 993 GT2 parts, which will be in a differend build).

After priming, all parts that needed to be sprayed with Alclad where painted gloss black.

Then I started working on the interior. It was kept quite stock, except for the Momo-steering wheel. I used flocking for the carpets and added seat-belts.

Then back to the body. I've used Zero Paints Guards Red as a base coat, followed by a 2K gloss lacquer on which I've placed the decals. Finally, the entire body was given two more layers of gloss.

The rims where painted in Zero Paints Arctic Silver.

They have been given a gloss coat also, but are still waiting on the decals and final gloss coat.

So... in the upcomming weeks I will be polishing the body, putting together the chassis, painting a coloured sun band on the windscreen and putting the final details in place.

I took a short brake during Christmas and a short vacation and now it is time to pickup this build again.

The model is nearing it's end. I hope to finish it during the upcomming 2 weeks.
Today I finished the suspension and painted a sunband. Unfortunately the sun band scratched so I have to re do that.

Very clean work ! I like how you made the interior. One thing: window trims should be thinned a bit, dont you think ?

Well if you want the scale to be exact. But then it would be best to use PE. I've build this kit a few times now and I think the thickness is hardly noticable when on display. Perhaps in the future I will do a high detail 964, but then I also want a full engine... Unfortunately there are no aftermarket flat six engines as far as I know off. And my skills in resin casting are not yet sufficient.

Yes, true. Maybe PE is best.

For the engine, you could use one from Fujimi's Enthusiast models. Wouldn't work ?

One question:
You started the 911 Pioneer version and I was wondering if you will use the decals or not. If not, do you think you can sell them to me ? I have done this 911 Pioneer and I messed it up so I wanted to strip the paint and redo it.

Today I was all set up the shoot the final photos... only to realise that the battery was empty... :disappoined:

So I had to shoot a couple of photos with my cell phone. The quality is not to good, but at least I can show the result while waiting on a new photo shoot.

A quick summary of all the work:

Interior:
- Modelmaster semi-gloss black
- Added seatbelts
- Black carpet flocking
- 3-spoke Momo steer
- Kenwood radio-cd player
- Replaced side blinkers

Exteriorr
- Zero Paints Guard Red
- 2K gloss laquer
- Sun band using Tamiya clear
- Created a second exhaust
- Small roof antenna (which seems a bit to large. May I will reduce the length...)
- Replaced the door handles

So... I have to wait for the camera to be recharged and some good weather for some outdoor pictures.

Today I found some time to shoot the final pictures. Since this is a present that will be handed to the new owner on his birthday (in June), I had to blurr the licence plate.

Yes you are right. I got the same tip from another forum and I will address that before handing over the model. Since this is a curbside, the exhaust is really simple and can easilly be adjusted.

Nice work - from your photos, did you sand the color coat before putting on the laquer? Or did you just sand/polish the laquer top coat only?

The first colour coats were lightly sanded, but not the final one. Afterwards thr clear laquer was polished with Novus.
