What keeps you interested in modelling ??
Got asked this last night and i'm interested to hear what others have to say.

the fact that, in real life, i'm very limited in what i can drive/afford. in the modelling world, i can build and own whatever beasts of desire and fantasy that i want to!:bigthumb:

I have to agree with S13_Iketani:thumbsup: You can pretty much own anything you desire in modelling!!! Plus the challenge to make your model look like the real thing:biggrin:

You didn't say which type of modelling

Rather a smart arse.....

The real answer....because I love cars, especially rally cars, so it gives me the chance to have my own 'garage' full of cars I like.

This year to be honest this forum,
Most previous years I would give up when the winter had pasted and start again next winter.
But I have gotten better 75% since joining this forum so I don't get so pissed off with what I create.

Thanks guys for all the insperation :bigthumb:

Ooooops.....i guess i should answer my question

I mostly try and build cars i'd like to own. I get a real kick out of turning a pile of plastic into a finished model.
All you guys here are a real insperation also. Some of the work that gets posted here is amazing and makes me want to keep building.

Apart from the facts that i have build quite a few (unsuceessful) models when i was much younger, i'm a newbabe in modelling (only finished 2 S15 models so far). But i'm really attracted to the modelling world because:

1. I love cars!
2. I feel very happy and satisfactory that i can make those plastics bits and pieces into a shinny model car.
3. It gives me a good chance to use my own createtivity to paint, modify the cars i like into what i want it to be. In real life, it will cost a lot of $$$ (my S15 still has stock wheels :()
4. This forum!!!!!!! i was really amazed when i first saw (and still even today) the pics of model cars you guys built.. some of those car models you guys made are just AMAAZZINNNGGG. I would want to be able to have your skills one day (still a far way .. but i'm learning and imporving everyday thanks to you guys :bigthumb: ) oh Thanks Tazdev for letting me know about this forum!!!
5. I love cars!!! (have i already say that before? )

There are a lot other reasons but these are the main reasons.

Because I've alwayed loved cars, and can't drive anything, so this lets me build whatever cars I want, although lately I havn't produced much.......

am a converted science fiction modeler  these car models are much easier to modify but can be very challenging at the same time. inspiration is always out there... everyone is tuning their cars. currently, what keeps me in car modeling is... well... trying to finish my bucket of polyester putty that my buddy gave me! my first mod on a car model was inspired just by the presence of the putty! i see all these really nice customized cars and i just had to try it. i'm learning pretty quick so that's a good thing... keeps my confidence up and willingness to do more. plus there's you guys who just keep pushing the bar higher and higher... inspiring me to do more and challenge myself to achieve more :) oh... and above all else... trying to achieve the perfect mirror finish!

I've been an absolute car fanatic since I can remember. Modelling is just another way of fulfilling my hunger for anything and everything automotive

I agree with Ray and TwinTurbo. With models, you can build cars you love and have a "garage" full of them. I think Ray was the one that worded it best. I think another thing for me is to make what I can dream actually happen and only have to spend $50 rather than $50,000 or more...who care's if it's only in the nondriveable 1/25 and 1/24 scales?? Not me :sunglasse

Everything that's been said pretty much nails it for me. There's are some cars I rarely or never see (like Ferraris or Formula 1 cars), could never afford to own (again, Ferraris or Formula 1 cars) or just strike a chord with me....so modelling gives me a chance to see and touch these cars.

for me its #1 the love of cars #2 self satisfaction of making something yourself #3 and obviously being able to own some thing I couldnt afford in full scale.

The missus :iceslolan cause if I sit around at home to long she will always find some sort of DIY for me to do......oh yeah and like Ray said having a garage full of cars that you love and also so that I can at least say that I have finished at least one model....:iceslolan

well, it's a complicated matter, but not a rare one none the less:

1. I'm an absolute car nut.
2. this forum, and the comments I hope to get.
3. The fact that you can use model cars as a basis for future vehicles you'll hope to own
4. I'm an absolute car nut.
5. I have a love of show cars, with amazing wheels, engines, etc, and one day I hope to replicate the feeling of seeing something that must've been incredibly difficult to make, but the finished product doesn't show any of the frustration in the quality of the work.
6. the respect you earn for making something as cool looking is undeniable.
7. I'm an absolute car nut.

:eek7: I'm confused too

Same for me. I also find it a great hobby because :
- if I have 2 hours, I can be 2 hours busy with modelling; if I only have 10 minutes, it's also possible to "work" 10 minutes : it is a "very flexible" hobby. No need to have 2 free hours in front of me to do something.
- the ratio "hours of fun / price" is very good, more than many other hobbies.
