Question about auto transmission

Hi,

I know very little about cars* so bare with me if I'm being stupid. I have a 2007 Isuzu Hi Lander pick up with auto transmission. I've had it for a month or two now and very happy with it.

The clutch feels as though it's slipping when the engine's cold. It only lasts for 15-20 seconds (max) and then goes. If the engine's stillw warm from its last use, it doesn't happen.

Is this normal? As I said, it's a big truck so perhaps all the heavy duty stuff needs to get warm to work properly. Is it a sign of something dying?

We need a little more description of what it is / is not doing ,,,,,,,,,,Year ,make, model, and a better description , I do understand what you are saying but need a better description it could be many things, How many miles ?........... What color is auto fluid ...... Does it smell burnt?, Things like that, Any dash lights on ?/exe.........Do you or can you get a service record for it ,That kind of stuff can tell the hole story

It's a 2007 Isuzu Hi Lander D-Max. 3.0Ddi, auto transmission. 140k (ish) kilometres (~85k miles).

When I start the engine in the morning, the transmission feels like it's slipping. Higher revs before it moves. Perhaps like I'm pulling a very heavy load. It lasts for 15 seconds absolute maximum (probably less, I'll have to time it when the engine's next cold) and only when cold.

The fluid is clear, red and at the right level. The fluid doesn't seem to smell of anything.

There aren't any dash lights on. There aren't any funny sounds or any other problems (noises etc).

The service history doesn't mention anything, but fluid last changed 1,500 kilometres ago (just before I bought the car).

The transmission, after those first 10 seconds when it's cold, seems to be perfect.

ive been trying to look threw trouble shooting forums, and books to maybe try to help It seems there are 2 transmissions used, can you identify the 1 you have ? also there has been many complaints found that sound strangely similar to yours and have had many catastrophic transmission failures at low mileage ,There may be some recalls out there , you may want to consult with a dealer

also mike, make Shure your fluid level is up to full ,being low can cause similar problems , check it with it running ,in park, and warmed up

How can I tell what transmission I have?

The fluid level is a little (1cm) above max. It stays the same when cold and hot. Running and off. Could this be the issue?

I paid careful attention to the car this morning. Starting from cold (ambient temp was ~20c / 68F over night), the 'problem' lasted for 5 seconds. I'm also not 100% sure if it was the clutch slipping or if the car took a little longer to change into 2nd than it would when warmed up. Could this be likely?

The car's around 160k km (100k miles). Does this rule out 'catastrophic failure' at low milage?

50114this should help there should be a tag on the pass. side of trans/if you are starting up and putting it in gear right away it may take a couple seconds to build full pressure, start up and idle a couple minets and see if it still does it

The wife has the truck at the moment so I'll look for the tag later. It'll also be another 24 hours before I can see what it does from cold.

I live in Thailand so the engine stays warm a good while.

mike i just looked back at what pic I posted and put rong pic but your transmission should be a transmaticII but there should still be a tag on the pass side of transmission
