It's not just the Caprice forum, but the entire site. Traffic has fallen off since Igor stopped offering S&H Green Stamps with every purchase...

Not just cash for clunkers. When scrap metal prices went through the roof. Several yards around me scrapped all their cars and closed up shop.

we still have the same yards around here. however you will not find much. vehicles are down to the frames. no parts.

Except for my 89 wagon, I rarely see other box wagons around and seem to see fewer sedans around also. However, I still see caprices at the junk yards when I go so parts are still available. Being in southern California, the weather does help preserve the old cars but living by the coast, my wagon does have some serious roof rust that must be dealt with or it will be history in a few years.
While at the junk yard a few years ago, I scored a rust free right side front door I needed from a rust free 89 wagon for $25. I was looking at the roof of this car and debated if I should come back with a cordless grinder and take the entire roof which would have solved my roof rust problem once and for all. I also considered just cutting out some patch panels I could have welded in but I know if I did this, rust would surface elsewhere on the roof. By the time I made up my mind, I went back to the yard but that car was already sent to the crusher. Another missed opportunity.
Now that my 17 year old son has started driving and is showing some interest in our wagon, a restoration may be in it's future.

But back on topic, it is very quiet around here these days, I just assumed all the great advice given here has fixed everyones broken cars.

I had an 87 Caprice Estate from September 2007-August 2009 (which kept the forum a bit busy) before I sold it to a demolition derby. My Caprice was from Long Island so it had less rust than had it been Upstate, but the rust was terminal and the issues numerous. The "funniest" issue was when the Caprice would shudder, lose power as well as slow down, and the check engine light would come on. By mashing the gas pedal a few times the issue fixed itself. For a $510 car off of Ebay I had a lot of fun.

Where I grew up in Central New York all the box Caprices rusted to death or broke down by the late 1990s-early 2000s. Near Freeville and right by a busy road there is a house with 2-3 Box Caprice Brougham lawn ornaments that have been there over 10 years (as of 2012 before I moved) and those would be the only Box Caprices I would see for weeks. Since vehicles rust out and/or breakdown in 10 or so years in New York finding parts for older vehicles can be real difficult if not impossible. By the late 2000s early 2010s finding certain parts for my 95 Voyager was really difficult and I had to resort to Ebay buys from Sunbelt States for parts. It got so bad that there were times I had to borrow someone else's vehicle just to get to work and around.

Savannah, GA and the Carolinas have the highest concentration of 1977-1996 Caprices in the entire Continental 48 unless there are large amounts in ND and MO, I have yet to get there. Mid-1990s Caprice Estates are rare in Northwest Oregon so I will probably have to go elsewhere when I have the money to buy one.

My '87 wagon has been in storage for two years until I have the time (and space) to replace the engine or bearings.

My own 9C1 is now parked while it undergoes some long-needed upgrades. On the list - conversion to fuel injection. In the form of an LT1 swap.

Reason: I can't have my other car be faster / quicker than this one - it just isn't right.

Iron headed LT1? If so, you may want to tweak and massage a little before performing the swap. I have details if you're interested.

Yes, it'd be the iron head LT1 for the Caprice. I was thinking about buying a donor car and getting everything I need from it.

Ever thought of placing a classified ad in Hemmings for a few bucks - I mean most of these are now Antiques! Or maybe a little post on the VCCA and AACA boards introducing this specalized place?

Yea, we've moved from these cars as sturdy workhorses, or those used by the old folks on Sundays - oh my gawd - I will be 52 next year - am I now "one of them"? :)
