I have a 00' civic ex that is pretty much stock. I want to fix it up, but dont really know my options. I've heard many diffrent discusions about turbo's and superchargers and Im confused. One big reason is my car is an automatic and I dont want to ruin the trany. Any suggestions or examples would be grately apreciated!!!!!

Before we get into how, first answer how much. How much power do you want to make, and what are your goals? If it is for drag racing, what kind of times do you want to be running? After we know that, we can figure out the best way to achieve your goals.

I see your point. Its my only vehicle so its a daily comuter, so naturaly I need to be able to do the day to day driveing, I would realy like to stand out of the average crowd though. also thought of puting a stall converter but dont know much about that either. so i guess the answer is as much as I can without lacking the day to day street use and be smoge leagal.

In that case, I would stay away from forced induction or nitrous (not that they ARE harmful, but they CAN be if not done right). I would do the usual basic go fast mods like cold air intake, lumpier cams, higher flow intake and exhaust manifolds, high flow exhaust system (nothing too ricey sounding...please) etc. If that doesn't cut it, THEN try a smaller nitrous kit, like a 50 shot. But make sure it is installed and tuned properly or you are heading for trouble, especially on stock pistons.
Also don't forget about wheels and tires, you can have all the power in the world, but it doesn't mean squat if you can't get it to the ground. Grippy tires will go along way.

Yea, done that. I have a magnaflow catback exaust and aem cold air intake. It helped but I want more then that, call me greedy. about NOS isnt that harder on the engine the lets say a turbo or supercharger? what about JRSC and nos. can that be done without ruining the engine? and what options do I have on building up the engine?

Well the safest thing would be a supercharger really its way more beneficail for automatic trans and very reliable for daily driving.Since u cant control your rpm's a turbo is nearly useless unless your at full throttle all the time.Stay away from NOS period thats all i have to say about that really and do not mix NOS with a supercharger or a turbo kiss your engine goodbye unless its built to handle it.All in all a jrsc is probably your safest and best mod for a daily comuter.

This is just my opinion. Not trying to step on any toes or hurt any feelings. But if I was in your position, take off all your aftermarket upgrades and put a for sale sign on the automatic civic. Find a good deal on a 5-speed EX. I think you are missing out on a lot by having an automatic tranny. But what ever floats your boat.......lol.

I agree, although the JRSC is crappy it's the best thing for your application. A JRSC doesn't reall give you low end power like a typical roots blower does. I looked at a dyno chart they have on their site, and it showed no HP gain until 3000 RPM. From 3-4K RPM it only gained about 10 HP. After that it goes like another 10 HP for every 1000 RPM. It only gives like a 40 HP gain, so you have to ask yourself is it really worth 3500 dollars - not really but it's the only thing you can do to your car to car a significant gain.
Try getting like underdrive pulley's and a cam gear. Also, do you have a header? If not get a header and at the same time a high flow cat, together that will get you a noticeable 5 HP. Also it makes your exhaust sound better. And did you ever think about chipping your ECU? Thats good for like 10 HP. But don't get it if you want to go with the SC.

Hay thanks for all the advice guys, I was going to sell the car problem is cant get what I owe out of it! Has High miles to year ratio. Its a 2000 ex w/ like 78k on it (thats my fault) In military and travle a lot. Im seriously thinking of just swaping the d16 w/ a b16 auto. or if I can get it done reasonable swap the d16y8 and auto tranny w/ a b16a sirII w/ a manual transmission, people are telling me that it can be done but Im not sure about the smog rules (have to pass cali emissions).

I'm big on forced induction so I wont comment on what I think you should get. Cough...supercharger...cough. It's all about opinion.

I vote for the b16a w/ manual tranny. I think you will have a lot more fun with it. But thats just me. I'm a big b16a fan....lol

Yeah, manuals are awesome. I haven't driven an automatic since my first car. Manuals allow far better control of your car.

its easier then yu think to ruin your auto tranny, specialy if you racing wit it...its all how your car is tuned...i have an auto integra an have beaten 5 speeds...but ov course 5 speeds r better no doubt...its just i dont feel like shifting all day....its a daily driver....you can do anything yu want to your car(well almost anything) just have it done by the right people an get a mech's advice.....auto pefromance mech that is not autozone or midas....want speed gotta have cash.....to stand out drop in a new motor sell your old one(somebody will buy it)rebuild it with top notch aftermarket parts(not the cheap ish) an get a catback exhaust but then after that you just spent almost 10 g'z including labor(civic type r motor included)but then you have a daily driver pushing umm lets say 230 hp's an quick..........

somebody will buy it
Just wondering how much could someone expect to get from a used engine, ecu and tranny?.
Like mine 98 honda civic ex auto tranny 100k wich if i remember right should be the D16Y8 right?. Could i even get any money off of a high mileage engine?

naa im still using it. I was just asking for information purposes.
Im saving up for a jdm b18c but dumb shit keeps happening like my girl got sick, like hospitalized sick and my distributor rotor and cap sparks and plugs was going out and needed replacing. Those together were around 2gs i think.
When i finally do the swap its probrally going to be a while from now. I was aiming at around december but now i just dont know.

patience is a virtue my friend, but of course when you see car's blowing past you on the road you get aggravated knowing that you are waiting for your heat under your hood.......an yes there are people who will buy used engines..or you could just save it do lil fix up's and keep it just in case you blow yours.....shyt happens
