Thats good to hear.
On a side note. I must apologize for getting off topic, sort of. Driving around the AFB here, and even the airport. I still see things as being way to vulnrable. Whats to say some freak doesnt decide to take out a plane from the ground? I small rocket could be fired, with great ease at a low flying plane, just taking off. Even with the AFB, the airfield runs within small arms fire of the road. I think there needs to be better precautions for things like this.
Sorry, didnt think that warranted a new thread. :)

Well to add to what you just said. This government is in react mode. I think that this is indeed, the wrong approach to our situation. However, a pre-emptive mode is somewhat tricky. Unless something happens to planes at that level, they aren't going to do anything. Which is really something to worry about. A stinger could easily take out a commercial aircraft. God I hope this never comes to happen.

I live near an international airport. The road I take to work everyday goes right along the west side of the remote parking lot, and right under the flight path of every plane.
There are lots of undeveloped lots around the airport where someone could camp out and snipe at planes, like Kris said.
I've noticed that the planes used to take-off and land from east to west, but are now going the other direction... I wonder why?
Planes are weird now. I look at them differently. I watch them for an extra second or two to confirm to myself they're not flying erratically or something. I'm not even sure I'd know the difference.
The only thing I can think of to compare it to is seeing a stranger on the street, and wondering if he's got a gun. Or a knife. Or whatever.
It's no good that I worry like this. This is the effect of terrorism.

I don't think somebody would just stand and take out a plane.... but every single airport is vulnerable to that
then again i didn't think somebody would kill themselves flying a plane into a building before sep. 11th :(

All things considered, we have vulnerabilities everywhere in this country. That is the problem only because this country has such a reactive stance to solving it's problems. There needs to be a more proactive approach to national security. It pains me to see when they show video footage of the hijackers before they boarded the plane and no alarms went off. I mean, I always thought there were people watching those screens at the airports. Shit, I've seen tighter security at some of our department stores.

I've done a little pilot training before. Reason that this is done is because of wind conditions. Planes will always land and take off into the wind. It makes sense if you think about it. As a stationary plane on the ground pointing into say a 20kmph wind already has a 20kmph wind speed. And wind speed is what the plane uses to take off.

I've notice the lackluster security in North America too. I've done a lot of traveling in the US and Canada for work. I think both countries need to look at the UK style of airport security. I mean they have guards walking around with assult weapons and shit. One big difference about the Canadian and US airport security is that in Canada, until recently, only passangers with valid tickets would be allowed behind security. In the US anyone could go. I always thought that was the worst policy ever. But I think they changed that rule after Sept 11.
On another note I did get caught with a 6" hunting knife one time. It got stuffed into a kind of hidden area of my bag and I missed it when I unpack for my business trip. It was a very tricky situation.

yeah i always thought people watched those screens to look inside your bag.... when did they stop doin that? There eyes are on the screens but they don't see anything?
sometimes the metal detectors go off just because somebody has some change in their pocket, or is wearin a watch, so how could it not go off for guys with box cutters and knives..... that's what i don't get
