I'm in the process of buying some $50 ( for all four) unknown brand wheels...they were previosly painted cheaply flat black and now the paint is covered in scratches and they look pretty bad... but for $50 i can handle it (im on a tight budget) I want to repaint them black again but i want to do it right this time...i am :eek7: when it comes to painting techniques and so i was wondering if anyone had any special tricks, techniques, or suggestions they'd like to share with me... how to make it look decent and last some amount of time for tiny money, and how do actually paint... dont want it to look like it did before...

Use the correct paint for the job, not just any old spray paint. Use a high temp paint.
Sand off all the old paint with med. grit sand paper, then apply primer. Sand in between coats of primer & paint with finer grit for better results. Try to keep the inside lip where the tire seals free from paint.

Even though I've done my own painting on stuff with my car, I'd really recommend you get the wheels professionally powder coated. Otherwise if you DO do it yourself, prep work before you apply the paint you use will be key in how well and long it lasts.

:iagree: with Matt
If you do it yourself then gravel and other debris is going to take its toll on the paint regardless if its high temp or joe schmuckatelly brand paint...power coating is your best bet

1) washed and dried
2) paint stripped 3 times to make sure everythin is off
3) scrubbed and rubbed with steal wool to get all debree off and roughin it up a bit
4) washed rinsed and dried real good
5) two coats of primer
6) 3 coats of high temp paint
7) 2 coats of clear coat....(wednesday im gonna put another coat on to make sure the lip dont rust)
8) let dry of course:rolleyes:

sand between coats of paint/primer with fine grit wet/dry sand paper so the paint sticks better
