2009 acadia 90k miles. My power steering will only work if the engine is reved. When it is idling it has no power steering. We have not heard any noises or wining sounds from it. Can I just replace the pump? The dealer said that without wining sound its probably not the pump and is something else. Any suggestions?

I have replaced several power steering pumps on these for this issue. They are not exactly easy to do, especially in a AWD version. Bleeding the air is a whole different problem. Sometimes takes me longer to bleed them then to replace the pump. Other times it goes pretty quick.
None of those pumps were noisy either...

We have replaced the pump and now are trying to bleed the air? Is there a trick? The dealer said to let it sit over night and then crank the vehicle turn the wheels once to the left and once to the right and turn it off and do this every few hours. It has been sitting since saturday. It is still making the noise now but not as bad or loud as when we first replaced the pump. Ours is not AWD. Thanks so much for your help!

I have the front tires off the ground and turn slowly lock to lock with the engine off. I also use a vacuum bleeder on these to help. It connects to a modified cap I made that I install on the pump. After the noise is gone the usually have a slight "shutter" when turning. This usually goes away after sitting overnight.

Does anyone know if the 100k mile GM warranty will cover the power steering?
