just gotta 95 neon with a 99 motor. what do i need to do to motor first

Well, what do you want to do? What type of motor is it, SOHC or DOHC? What type of transmission to you have? Help us out a little.

Well, depending on the mileage I would check:

- oil
- spark plugs and wires
- radiator theromostat
- throttle body for any debris
- fuel injectors
- air filter
- wiring, make sure is not getting brittle

Neons are famous for blowing sensors....I am sure this is a Chrysler thing, not just limited to Neons....but for what it's worth, here's a list of sensors/electronic stuff I have replaced since my motor swap:

- intake temperature sensor
- throttle position sensor
- idle/air controller
- camshaft position sensor
- crankshaft position sensor
- coolant temp. sensor
- radiator fan relay
- new PCM connection
- O2 sensors upstream and downstream
- speed sensor

What I haven't had to replace yet:

- MAP sensor
- EGR valve

If you don't know anything about cars, I suggest finding someone who does and have them check it out and make sure everything's good.

Neons have their bugs, but if you stay on top of things it will be good to you.

Good grief, Kat! I've replaced the oil temp sensor twice (once was because I bought non-Mopar) on my '95, and the O2 sensors and EGR (replaced because of misdiagnosis) on my '96. I guess I've been lucky...

Most of those sensors I replaced was on my new motor. It had been powerwashed and put in storage for 2 years before I actually ended up with it. A friend of mine had it and was gonna build it for racing, knowing full well he probably damaged the sensors, then when my motor blew I was in a bind and he sold me the motor out of the goodness of his heart :) I knew I would be buying sensors....it's been a 3 year period that I did the replacing. The speed sensor though, the connection somehow got exposed and it the prongs in it got corroded. The coolant temp sensor was my punishment for using a non-Mopar replacement however Dodge dealers parts dept isn't open at 11:00 at night LOL.

On the bright side I have saved alot of $$$ by diagnosing and fixing these problems myself or with the help of my fiance for tougher jobs.

I know this is kinda of topic, but that headgasket just reminded me of something: is it recommended that you go with the chrysler dealership headgaskets or does that matter?

The consensus seems to be that there are good multi-layered steel HGs out there, but you're safer to get one from Ma Mopar. As long as it's installled properly, it won't fail.
