Next Project....Another EVO !!...(Fujimi EVOVIII)

Hot on the heels of the Tamiya EVO is the next project.....A EVO VIII by fujimi.
I couldnt beleive my luck last week when i walked into this toy shop and the young lady was just unpacking it out of the box. I said to her that i wanted one and how much was it.
She said to wait untill her boss got back as she had no idea what it was worth. I joked and said about $40NZD....She replyed that it sounded about right !!! (They sell for $75-80 usually).
I couldnt get my wallet out fast enough !!!!!....(i owed this shop after they ripped me off a few months ago with some toys for my kids)

Anyway....this will be lowered with 19's and be red to match my EVO collection.
Here's a pic with the wheels before sanding/prime/paint etc.
Not much to report on this kit as it the same as the EVO7 but a different front (Fujimi :rolleyes: )
Interior will be a mix of red and black

Anyone know if the US version is the only one w/the different rear bumper and Altezza taillights? The Fujimi Evo VIII kit is identical to the Evo VII except for the front end restyle. The Evo's sold here have a different rear bumper and taillights than the Fujimi kit represents.:confused: :confused:

Warren. You should make one or two or three race cars! (As in Evo rally cars). Just a thought ;)

They have the new lights here in NZ.
We had a brand new one at our car show last weekend that the cops were thrashing around so we could test there new radar guns on it !! :cool:

Those are the taillights we have, our rear bumper "smiles" at you in the same fashion as the front bumper. There's a character line that sweeps upwards at the rear corners, and to me it looks better than the old Evo VII style. Probably because of US bumper regulations. I'll have to putty mine up whenever I get around to building mine.

Yes its a shame that Fujimi just re-tool the front of there EVO 7 kit then flick them of as EVO8's.....but i guess as long as they have people like me etc that keep on buying them i cant see them changing there ways in making there kits. :frown:

The first day my local dealer got one of these in stock I was awe struck! Finally after nearly 2 months I brought myself to stop by and set in it....if I ever drive on it may be more than I can resist!

Warren-Are the holes in the hood and grill open on this kit? Looks like the hood is, but I can't tell about the slots in the grill. What wheel set comes in the box?

Ha stupid toy shop lady. Good buy. Can't wait to see the first stages.

I spotted this in my local shop for 22 pounds (over priced) Not sure if it was going to be any good, so I look forward to seeing it finished.

As for the rear light...they will have to stay as they are as i'm not the best ehen it comes to scratch building up some new lights :frown:

I love the front of these cars! Kinda suprised Fujimi molded them open, did it come with mesh?

The stock wheels aren't as bad as I suspected....ah hell...looks like another kit to add to my wish list!

When I buy my Lancer Evolution here in the states I'm going to find some way to get rid of those nasty "Altezza" taillights, other than that great job on the car.

This is going to be a great addition to your stable, p-man. Especially since we all know that the quality will be consistant with all the others.

My question is, did I miss the Evo's I through III? Or do you jut not have kits for them.... ? Or am I rambling?

2 coats of primer followed by 4 coats of Tamiya TS-8 Red.
The inside of the whole car will get painted black as this makes the red darker.

Quick update from today.
The interior is finished. Mix of flat red and black

The body is almost finished. Very pleased after painting the inside black to give it a deeper look.
It really darkens the red up and is well worth looking to do with a red painted car.

just curious, with what kind of paint -- I'm thinking non-acrylic, enamel perhaps? That must be one WIDE brush.

If I remember correctly, Pman uses enamel paint with interiors because they don't dry as fast as acrylics. That's why you hardly see brush marks on his job. Except this one. :biggrin:

I think that is something that is molded onto the body, I think it is supposed to look like a fabric bend...cuz it def. isn't a p-man mess-up

Me thinks the P-Man should do a "Paintbrush HOW TO" in the near future, or is there already one which I'm missing. IMO Being able to do prope paint-brush-ing would be a big PLUS when detailing the interior...:confused:

I'm not sure it would be worth doing a "How to" on brushpainting as there's not much to tell.
I always use enamals
This might help you out.....

Use enamals as they take longer to dry therefore giving you more time to work with the paint.
Heat the bottle of paint in warm water first as this helps thin the paint down and makes it flow better.
If you are doing a fairly large area....put quite abit onto the brush and work quickly before it dries.
Use the correct brush size for the area. If you are doing a large area, use a bigger brush !!
Keep all the brush marks going one way and for the final finish... you should just use the weight of the brush to help smooth out the paint.
Try not to keep going over the same area as it becomes "tacky"..... as you will start to pull the paint off giving a rough finish.
Allow plenty of drying time(4-5 hours at a warm room temp) to put a second coat on if need

Only if i have to.
Most times the interiors are black so i can spray the bulk of it first then add the details like seat colour's later on.
