FAF2 -- How do they get FIRE to shoot out?

I saw the fire thing in FAF2 and in Gone in 60 seconds. How do they do that?

it is a kit made by autoloc (think that is the name) but it is kinda stupid i think what is the point of a flame from your exhaust?

but whatever floats your boat
but i think it is autoloc not 100% sure

my boss has it in one of this cars, when you see it in person its one of the coolest things i've ever seen, it does it just to fuck around with people on the highway and scares them because he did that on one of htis beaters ( a 89 stanza ) anyways, this is how it works, you put a spark plug in the tailpipe. the way you wire the thing is up is that when you push that button to light that spark up in the rear, it cuts of the ignition up frnnt for a split second. therefore the your just dumping unburned fuel into the tailpipe, so when that rear spark plug lights up, it makes a pretty damn big flame, the flame stays for like 2 seconds, and it looks like the afterburner on a jet. it also sounds like a torch too. reallyc ool stuff. i have a video of it but i have no one to host it.

I believe this method only works for older model cars with no catalytic convertor required.

Works with any car as long as you can get unburnt fuel to flow from the tailpipes. True, cats cut down on a lot of this, but a rich tune or an intentional spark miss can still cause enough fuel to be left unburnt for this little trick to work. However, if you buy a kit such as the one 96Hatch mentioned, or the Dragonfire kit which does the same thing, the flames will be WAY bigger than the jury-rigged spark plug method. There was a similar topic posted in the Honda/Acura FI forums a while back. I posted pics from a friends car who did the spark plug deal, and someone else posted pics they found from the kit...I'll try and find the pics.

well if you have a quality built car pushing high boost and you have straight pipes you'll shoot flames from your exhaust pipes when your really hard on the gas.. but i seriously doubt thats the case for 2f2f

Wow, I thought it was only without the CC. Okay well I know how to do it without the CC but Self do you have a How to for doing that with a CC ??
Anything to show me how to get some unburnt fuel flowing ?

It is MUCH easier to do without the cat, but can be done with one as well. I've never done this on my car, but I can try and explain to you how I'm pretty sure my buddy did it(first two pics I posted above).
He cut a small hole near the end of the tailpipe and place a big, large-gapped spark plug there, using a spot weld to hold it in place. He then ran a think gauge spark wire from the plug to the engine bay. He ran it underneath of the car, but placed the wire in a loom to try and keep it from touching the exhaust pipe and possibly burning up. He ran the wire up through the bottom of the floorboard underneath the pedals on the drivers side. he connected the wire from the tailpipe plug to a relay, switch, and light setup. The switch allows him to turn the plug on and off, and a light alerts him to when the switch is on. He then ran a wire from the other end of the switch to the engine bay and spliced it into the spark wires on both the number 1 and number 4 spark wires. Why he spliced it into both is beyond me. I think it would work fine if you only cut into one wire and attached it there, unless there's some unknown reason(to me) why you'd need to wire it to two seperate plugs. Just makes for a more complicated wiring setup if you ask me. Anyways, that's pretty much it as far as wiring and setup goes. Whenever the switch is on and he revs the engine to around 4k+, he gets the flames like in the picture. As far as getting more fuel, we used my laptop and AutoTap(LT1 Car Tuning Software) to tune the car to run rich, throwing more fuel at the cylinders than they can burn. Not especially good for the engine, but not as bad as if it were running lean. I don't really know if/how you can tune your car yourself.
The biggest problem with the whole assembly is that the flames hurt the rear bumper. After about 10 minutes of revving and driving around with the flames leaping, his rear bumper had started to char and deform under the heat. I guess you could bend your exhaust pipes away from the car to cut down on this, but my guess is it will still happen unless you extend the pipes out further from the rear of the car(BAD looking IMO:frown:). But yea, lemme know if you have anymore questions. Maybe I can take pics of the actual assembly if I'm not too busy with my own car tonight

from the pic of that S2000, my boss stanza is just as big, but however he has no cat. with no resonator either so thats why it spits out flames just as big as that one.

Self: I find it funny that you are trying to say that old muscle car with the 30' plus flame and the other car were done with the spark plug method. I know those pictures. I have seen them before on www.gotflames.net where you can purchase the kit. You know gotflames do have a copyright. Dissapointed in ya dood

I would suggest purchasing a kit. I had a friend who made his off and blew his tailpipe and half his muffler straight off. Kit is the safest way to go and i dont even know if that is safe. I am going to do it.

I don't see what's wrong with what he said.. He said the camaro was done with teh spark plug method, while the muscle car was with kit..
Sure gotflames might have copyright, but right now, he's just showing us pictures, in a way, advertising for them.. so what the hell is your problem?

LOL. I'm dissapointed in your READING ABILITY. Go back and look at my posts AGAIN. You will see that I said the huge flames WERE FROM THE KIT, and that if you were going to do it, BUY THE KIT because there is no comparison between the HUGE FLAMES FROM THE KIT, and the little flames that you get when you use the spark plug method. I find it funny you are trying to call me out without getting the facts straight. Oh, and welcome aboard:bigthumb:

I couldn't remember at the moment. I got them directly from a guy on camaroz28.com a long time ago, who bought the kit and then posted up on the boards what it was capable of. I actually thought that they came from the Dragonfire kit at first, but wasn't really sure.

that's the way it should be. in my opinion, paying extra money to shoot flames is retarded. why don't you just spend that money on making your car faster? yeah, a lot of people (mostly kids/teens) will think it's the coolest thing, but when those people see it who know their stuff, they'll know right away that it's fake.
these flame kits are like padded bras. it looks great from the outside, but once you find out what's going on, you're a little disappointed. does this make sense to anyone?

i honestly had no idea why flames were still coming out of the 2F2F cars after they had launched off the line. Its not good for a car to be doing that and if its the spark plug method of not firing the spark plug then its pointless.

Anti-Lag systems are better  open exhaust valve then ignite the fuel. Fantastic.

in order to do Flames without a Kit it is hard. You have to pushing a lot of power and make sure you know what you are doing with it. They are cooler that way though. That is the first pic that i have seen that it is a non-carb engine though.

Bee*R makes kits for the 240/skyline that cuts ignition as a rev limiter and it shoots flames just not a long one though
