I have been hunting the flares for the above kit for quite sometime for my 74 bmw 2002 which looks like this in full scale

Now what would be the best aproach to upscale this for measurments/angles to make molds. this is probally nutso bet hell I will give it a try :)

no i belive that he has the model and a picture of the car.

he is asking how he could make molds, i would guess he has that same car and wants the kit.

your best bet to make a mold for that kit if you wanted to try would to be find the real thing, there is no way you could get everything right in scale.

um.... make drawings from measurements taken from the kit (mark a 1" scale), print them on a transparency, pull back the overhead projector until the 1" scale is 24" long, trace plans at 1/1 scale...

:dunno:

First of all, measure Tamiya's base body to see if it is in fact dimensionally correct to the real thing because if it isn't, the flares will be off too.

I'm not sure the dimensions for this aero kit would fit your '02. The base for this car was an E21 320, which I think is a bit larger than a 2002. Get a pair of drafting dividers and an engineer's scale (something that will measure in decimal inches- working with fractional inches sucks!), and multiply by 24. Measure the model, and then compare it to your car. (Use a flexible tape measure, like one for sewing- it won't scratch up the car.) Check non aero kit dimensions- length and with of the hood, length between front and rear axles, etc., to see if the model is a usable as reference for your '02.

By the way, your 320 looks sweet! I snapped up the first one of these I saw, too.

Good to see other Bimmerheads here!
