Integra Issues

hey guys,

I was wondering if there is an Integra FAQ out there. I have an Integra and want to know a few things about it. I'm not much of a mechanic so I take it to mr. lube, etc. However, I do want to know a few things regarding proper maintenance, i.e. fuel injector cleaner, engine flushing, etc. and even perhaps how to do an oil change myself (please don't laugh I know I suck). :newbie:

Anyways, thanks for the help in advance.

sorry, originally meant to mention that the brakes are feeling "wobbly" and the muffler is sounding loud, could there be a hole or something forming which is causing this?

How do you mean wobbly? if the exhaust is starting to get loud then you probably have a hole somewhere or the baffles are worn out.

do you mean they shake when you push them in???

prolly need new pads or rotars

again, I should have clarified, sorry...

they are wobbly at high speeds, I mean the whole car feels like it's shaking and it's relative to speed.. I should also note that I had my brakes done by a mechanic early january, who shaved the rotor.

Could it be that the rotor is warped? Also is it possible that the pads are not positioned properly and are wearing into the rotors incorrectly?

perhaps I should take my car to a brake specialist.

thanks.

Just need to balance and align your wheels.

If they don't turn the rotors properly it can cause vibrations, but more then likely like jegteg said you just need wheel balancing.

But that is only if the vibration is all the time, not only when applying the brakes.

Here's somfin I found...http://www.geocities.com/samarin_vl/ and http://www.autosite.com/garage/symptoms/trblsht.asp

Thats actually not to bad of a site, helps a person to try and diagnose what the problem could be.

excellent sites guys, very much appreciated.

I'm doing an oil change on my car for the first time tomorrow (with my brother who's done quite a few) and I was wondering a couple things.

a) is there anything special to look out for when doing an oil change specifically on an integra
b) do you guys recommend using "engine flush", I've heard of this stuff being used in between oil changes?
c) same thing with fuel injector cleaner?
d) what brand of oil you guys recommend using?
e) do you recommend using honda/acura oil filters or generic brands that will fit?

I currently have a problem where my car is eating a substantial amount of oil, usually by the time it's time to do a new oil change, it's pretty low and somewhat frusturating. From what I can see in my garage and when looking underneith my car, there is no leak around the drain plug, the only thing that I have noticed is that there is "moisture" around the plug.

thanks in advance and please feel free to add any comments/suggestions.

Eric

a) No
b)No
c)Yes-Put it in like once a month if you run regular 87 octane. If you run 89 you only need to do it like twice a year. 89 is much clearer than 87, trust me I have a clear fuel filter on my truck and the difference is amazing
d)I use Castrol GTX 5W30. Most people with probably say to use synthetic but I think it's a waste of money.
e)I use K&N oil filters. They are really good. My brother is a mechanic and he said lately FRAM filters have been coming apart and they really screw your engine up. So i recommend you stay away from FRAM filters.

Check for leaks around the entire oil pan, not just the plug. How much is ''substantial''? Is this like a quart a week or what? If it's only like a quart a month than it's probably just burning it cuz the engine is worn out. Make sure you check your oil every week and KEEP IT FULL! The last thing you want to do is never check until it's time to do a change, if you run too low you run a chance of frying a bearing and overheating your internals.

usually around the 1.5-2 month after doing an oil change I will notice that it's low. Yeah, I check the oil and make sure that its good every other fill up.

I'll pick up a K&N filter, at lordco on the way home. How much more are they to the average Integra Oil Filter?

I've typically used Castrol 10w30 when getting it done at the mr. lubes, is this bad?

Yeah I'll check for leaks around that area. Thanks for the tips.

BTW. Why is the engine flush stuff that you can get done at mr. lube/jiffylube or the stuff that you buy at the stores a negative? Is it because it can eliminate "necessary" deposits? or is it just bad all around?

I'll pick up the fuel injector cleaner.

KN oil filter is usually 8-10 bucks, a FRAM is 4-5 $. So twice as much, but it's worth your engine. I don't know of any other prices, but those are the only 2 brands I've ever used.
Castrol 10W30 is fine.
The engine flush-IMO it doesn't do anything, it's just something else they charge you for.

The stuff that I was refering to is a can of stuff that you pick up from canadian tire ( I live in canada) and you put it in after draining the oil, let the engine idle for a couple mins, then put in new oil.

Is this a terrible product? My mileage is around 170kish.

Also I've been seeing lots of people mentioning mobile1 how does this product compare to castrol?

thanks,

Eric

Trying to make something thats old and worn out new again is not a good idea. By trying to clean up old stuff it brings new problems to light. For example, if you flush an old radiator sometimes it opens up pin holes and starts to leak. Then you have to replace it. But if you had left it alone it would have been fine.(unless it was clogged) By no means am I a guy that thinks ''if it ain't broke don't fix it''. I believe that you should do preventive maintenance, but some things are just better left alone.

i used 10w 30 the manual said to 5w 30 is if it is 20 degrees or colder out. does it matter 10 w or 5w?

PWMAN

Theres not much difference between 5W30 and 10W30, but if the book tells you to use 5W30 than why not use it????

I'm looking at both the K&M site and the FRAM site and I noticed this oil filter?

What do you think about it?

Also another question that just came to mind was, how much oil does the Integra take?

thanks,

Eric

What do I think about what? Did you want to attach something cuz it didn't work if you did try.

The integra should be 4-5 quarts. Just get 5, better to have more than not enough.

oops sorry.. never posted the link, well it doesn't work anyways.

I meant to put the Fram Double Guard oil filter link, but it just points to the main site.

I'll look into the K&N regardless.

thanks for the help man.
