question about Jetta

I drove a 2003 1.8t auto and loved it. But my concern is reliability. Being that I've always had japanese cars I'm use to keeping them to 200k plus miles with minimum, if any, major problems. I really like the handling and low end torque of the jetta. But are they really problematic and have a a short life span?

Uhh, no. First of all, the 1.8T is a new engine and you can bet no one has 200,000 miles on it yet. Secondly, the 1.8T's and VR6's between 2001 and 2003 are plagued with coilpack problems. The late 2003 models have new coilpacks that will not fail.

Oh, boo hoo, big deal you go to the dealer and you get new coils changed for free. So, stop complaining since all cars have recalls.

Please, tell me where you see the 'complaint'. I was stating the fact, not complaining.

i've personally seen 3 1.8t with over 100 k on them, and they are all running strong, the coilpack is a recall, and will be fixed for free, the 1.8t is a brick of an engine.

how many lbs of boost does it have?

now i have driven many turbo cars before and i was told on the other cars to let the car idle for about 10 to 15 seconds before i shut off the engine so as to allow the system to "calm down".
The dealer tells me i don't have to do that! what gives?

ok well any way picked up the car yesterday, dorve it home slowly and i'm still trying to slowly break the engine. but here in Nj its tough way to many highways. but so far its a nice car. quiet as hell though for a turbo!

Let it idle and let it idle longer than 30 seconds...

the turbo keeps spinning but once the car is shut off there is no more oil to cool the turbo so it spins dry...

so let it idle for about 30seconds after i get it into the garage.
ok here is the deal it takes me about 3 min to drive through my complex to get to my place, the speed limit it 20mph
so the turbo isn't spooled up.
but never the less yah i'll let it idle for 30seconds.
