how fast are grand ams

my friend has a 2000grand am a v6 3.4 i beliee they have 180 hp and he has a delta flowmaster exhaust system it probably has like 188 hp around there.i want to know how fast it might be.and do you guys know what they run in the 1/4 mile stock the years 99 thru 02 also the gt .ill apreciateanyresponses :smile:

hmm, an auto gt... maybe, ive heard mid 15's for them. ive raced a newer gt (02 maybe?) it was a standard, and he didnt start pulling on me until he was in 2nd.

I would bet thqat a mustang GT would smoke a Grand am GT

I raced a Mustang GT in my GTP (which will eat a Grand Am GT for lunch) and it was a close race. but he ended up winning

mustve been a standard gt, cuz the auto's are only mid 15's.

I have been a stang GT in my 97 Grand Am GT, only performance mod is a open air filter (if you wanna call that a mod)

A new stock GAGT will run high 15s. no you will not beat a new Mustang GT driven by a competent driver

it might be a good race between a 94-98 mustang GT vs a 99+ GAGT, they are somewhat comparable in the 1/4 mile.and seeing how the 94-98 probably have alot of miles on them, a newer -say 02- GAGT would have an even better chance.

but about your friends it comes with ether 170hp or 175hp, and a muffler isnt going to give you 8hp, maybe you might get 5 tops.

I Honestly don't see a Stock G/A GT beating a Mustang GT. Well The 99-2001 Mustangs Had More HP than the G/a V6 was 190. V8 (GT) Was 260, that is also for 94-98, the HP for the GT didn't change, maybe slightly, but not much.

the 94-98 GTs had maybe tops 220hp, 99+ is when they got upped to 260hp.

i used to have a 95 Mustang Gt until i totaled it and it only had 215hp stock as well as the 94 mustang gt. they both had the same 5.0 engines. the 96 mustang gt and up have the 4.6 engine in them and the 96-98 models gained around 5hp a year. it wasn't until 99 when they started increasing the power to 265hp. there is no way a stock grandamgt can beat that not even an older one!!!

Oh okay then My mistake, I must have misread the Spec sheet. oh well. heh

Im gonna make a point about the mustang gts.
Th 95-98 mustang gts had 220 hp , the 99 gt's and up have 265hp. Heres the cool part , the 95-98 stock gts are 1/2 second faster on quarter miles than the newer ones. Its a fact , hp doesnt always make the difference.

thats right , 200lbs makes lot of difference in that case.

I don't know the spec's on a convertable Mustang GT, but I hear that the convertable are usualy slower do to the re-enforcements of the frame, causing extra wait. So go race a convertable GT. Let us know what happens. If a GT comes in convertable. Don't particularly like Ford. So I don't know to much about them.

Factory HP specs have been... 'off', shall we say in the past A few things to consider...

1-Factory HP is always at the flywheel, not the tires.
2-Take gear ratios into account.
3-The Factory may 'downplay' the performance. Take a Camaro LS1 vs. a Corvette LS1 of the same year. Different heads and cam, yes, but still...

Depending on mods, I'd say a GAGT could definately hang with a Mustang GT of the same year. Different engines take differently to the same mods. You may see a huge gain with one mod on a 3.4, yet the same mod on a 4.6 could be negligable.

Not all Factory HP is measured at the Fly wheel. Some times they Guess. They use a formula and have an est. Some if measured at the wheels, Known as Net HP. That is with all Acessories running

My 2000 GA SE 4 door took well to porting the intakes , porting heads and port polishing the exhaust. With custom cold ram air , custom straight flow exhaust and headers , the gain at the engine was at most 28 hp 198hp @4900rpm . The torque it was producing at the engine was 252lbs @ 4200 rpm. I couldnt have it dyno'ed with the ram air so i have no clue if its really better or worse than a factory ram air kit but the tubes are pretty smooth and straight and much more diameter. I also had the delco chip(which claims to increase hp but im skeptical) and jet pcm on it when i tested it.
It runs good and clean but gets real poor gas mileage. highway-28mpg city-14mpg was before pc and port work highway-40mpg city-19mpg.
I know , i got too much time on my hands...

Doesn't that just suck when you get a speeding ticket trying to find out how fast your car can go? When I was in Germany, we could go as fast as the car could take us. It was an Opel Vectra with only a 1.6 liter engine, none of the smog junk to slow it down. With four of us in the car, we went 220 kmh (about 135 mph) just think what a 3400 without smog equipment could do.

I never tried to bury the needle since i put the chip in , my sober driver was stompin on it. The law round here is if i go more than 200kmh and get caught i get pulled over at gunpoint. They dont have legal top speed tracks here either.

What did you do for performance to your Grand Am CT?

I would never remove the smog equiptment on my Engine. I tried a bunch of fancy lil K&N filters for the lines intead of letting it recycle smog air and the motor would idle all over the place get nasty lulls in power. One of the best cars too use that open smog recycler crap is acura's , for some reason they actually get more hp from it , maybe because they're lower compression engines.
