How to get rid of a cat?

Seriously; no joke. I have a cat I can't keep because he's really fluffy and my wife's alergic.
The jackass neighbor upstairs threw him out. This poor cat is totally an inside cat. He doesn't have any "cat skills" at all. But now he likes to go outside and do stuff. He's just not good at it. It's funny, really.
I really like him and don't want to send him to the pound to die, but I really can't keep him. We've asked everyone we know if they'd take him, and no luck. :(
He's no kitten, so sitting in front of the grocery store won't work too well. He also needs to get fixed soon, and I can't afford it, and I don't want him to start spraying.
What else can I try?

Well, I would say go to communities.msn.com, and search for a cat community. See if anyone wants to take him. There should be local no kill shelters around you as well.
Or, put a rubber band around his nuts, and shave him bald. :bloated:

I know this belongs under the useless knowledge thread - but all orange cats are male.
Aside from that little tidbit, I'm sorry I dont live a few thousand miles closer, because I know my folks are looking for a cat and it sounds like that one would fit the bill. Good luck though.

Do you know of any rescue groups in your area? They usually have members that take in an animal that act as a foster owner until it can be placed.

all orange cats are male.
Correction - MOST orange cats are male, but orange males and Calico females make ALOT of orange babies, of which 50% (on average) are females.
I know, because we had an infestation of orange females :D!

why don't you just give it to your local animal shelter??

Aren't there some places in the US where you can take animals and they won't put them down. They basically stay there until they are adopted out and if they never get adopted out, they just forever for the rest of their days?? Just a thought. :)

If you can't find a rescue group, you should call information and see if they can give you a number to a "no kill" shelter.

the shelters around here don't kill the animals, they just find people that will take them. They only put them to sleep if they are really sick, and are in lots of pain
even if they have broken bones, then the animal shelter waits for the animal to heal and then finds a new owner

The Animal Control shelter here holds them for 30 days for adoption, then that's it.
I'm looking for one of the "no kill" places...
Thanks, guys. :)
This poor cat. :( He's really cuddly. He was sleeping next to me in the bed last night, and I rolled over, knocking him off onto some pillows on the floor... he didn't even wake up. :) Awww.... :D

I'd get rid of the wife first !!!!....j/k
Its always hard to know what to do as they become like a good friend.
The shelter sounds like the best place for the cat though.

You must be so sad. He sounds like an awesome cat! :(
I'm sure someone will adopt him. :)

Why doesn't your wife get some anti-allergy pills? Surely that's a small price for her to pay to keep her husband happy by keeping his beloved pet?

pills are a waste of money and time... plus they're a hassle
just get her to get an anti-allergy needle, that way she doesn't have to worry about her allergies
i used to be allergic to cats too ;)
