Long-life spark plugs

My 2000 SES Duratec DOHC has now done 64000 miles. Ford say the spark plugs should run until 100,000 miles. Seems a lot to me. Has anyone any comments as to whther this is accurate, or is it a manufacturers ploy to make servicing costs look cheaper than they actually are?

My personal opion is to change them every 60,000 I did my Taurus Duratec at 75,000 and it made the engine start up and vehicle acceleration much smoother.

It's up to you but my SHO has 118k on the plugs and still runs strong as it did when I bought it...

it depends on what kind of mileage u put on the car. if u drive 100 highway miles or 15 miles a day of stop and go traffic, the wear will differ on the plugs.

pull out the plugs and visually check them. then make the call if its still good or if it needs replacing. after all, u depend on it to get u to where u want to go.

Thanks for your replies about the 100,000 mile life of spark-plugs. I took one out and it looked in good shape. I suppose the platinum tip, today's fuel qualities and metering systems make it a goer. Trouble is, i remember sand blasting plugs every 3000 miles when gasoline was full of lead. Esso used to be the worse culprit (Standard Oil).

I'm not sure how stop start motoroing SHO man would make a difference though? Maybe you know more than me, maybe you mean the more fuel and higher revs you use burn the plugs out quicker? Incidentally, when you next post a thread here, let me know the spec. of the SHO engine as I am from the U.K. and the SHO had gone by the time i got here. Is it a D.O.H.C? $ vavles etc, how about the torque and BHP? What is the C.C?

Regards

Ian

Incidentally, how about the PCV valve, that is supposed to go a 100K too apparently?
