Just wanted to say thanks for the link....My car has c.w. and is in the shop now...trying to get it covered by warranty...I know they're gonna fight me on it (extended warranty)...and of course I get the "what is crankwalk..never heard of it) crap outta them...So I've been doing my research and I've printed up over 100 pages of crankwalk info....
:D

The problem with aftermarkte warranties, is that they will do everything in thier power to force the dealer to replace the bearings even if the dealer knows what CW is and wants to replace he shortblock. And as we all know, VERY few people have succesfully rebuilt a CWed motor. They usually dont last more than a couple k miles. Hell, in my case I had 3 factory motors CW at 30k, 40k, and 50k before I broke down and got a 6 bolt. But also be aware that 6 bolts walk all the time too, just not as often, and since 1G cars dont use a crank sensor/trigger behind the tbelt, you may not even know it has CW until the thrust end play is .040 or more! Good luck with it. Are you positive it was CW? For anyone else looking for info, I wrote up a decent, basic, post on it at www.racingknowledge.com, its a sticky in the DSMsection. It may help some people understand it more, especially newer DSMers.

HEres the link, and on the second pageis a detailed description I wrote for someone on checking for CW. http://www.racingknowledge.org/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=185&whichpage=2

My extended warranty was with Fidelity out of Florida....they were great....they had the dealer pull the oil pan, look at the damage and gave them the o.k. to order a new block...no questions ask. I didn't even have to show them any maintenance receipts or anything...I guess I just got lucky....

As for it walking again...it came with a 1 year 12,000 mile warranty, If it walks again, they'll be replacing it again...any time after the warranty is up, I'll throw a 1g motor in it.

And as we all know, VERY few people have succesfully rebuilt a CWed motor.
We have a guy in our club who's motor CW 3 times before 86,000 miles...he redone the entire motor, blocked the oil squirters off, balance shaft removal....everything seems to be fine so far....

But also be aware that 6 bolts walk all the time too, just not as often,
Yep, they sure do...we have a 1.8 Eclipse with CW...so it will happen...it can happen to any car...

The 12k mile warranty is standard mitsu deal too. But either way, it probably wont help much. I CWed at 30k, 40k, and 50k myself. A rebuilt 7 bolt will do it in a few k sometimes, but typically a shortblock from the dealer lasts as mine did, 30-60k. Which makes the warranty useless. Good luck with your new motor though, hopefully its a good one.
