My brakes were fine all week (felt a little soft in the beginning... just bought my civic Monday) but today I am driving to work and I have the pedal on the floor and I am barely stopping! Haven't had a chance to look at it yet today...What should I check 1st? Thanks!

How much is it to replace a master cylinder?

If you get one from a junkyard, probly like $50-75, maybe u just have a leak tho, you should check your brake lines or something b4 you go out and buy a new mc.

My master cylinder went out twice in 2 weeks, that was in my old Civic though, the stock one went out then the brand new Bendix one went out a week later, it sucked ass. Brand new one costs about $100.00 if even that much, I dont remember paying more than a hundred bucks for it.

My brake fluid was low and I noticed there was brake fluid dripping down the inside of my front driver side tire. Pretty bad leak. I made it home but barely...no short stops...
What is causing this? And how do I fix it?
Any info is much appreciated, thanks!

its either the hose or the wheel cylinder in the brake caliper. if it getting all over your rim, chances are its the wheel cylinder. shouldnt cost you too much to fix, either way

I'm going to look at it this weekend when I get a chance. Never worked on brakes before...we'll see how it goes. I should probably pick up a manual to see how it all works...
I don't have a garage either and the homeowner association gets pissed when you work on your car (especially dealing with fluids like oil or brake) Oh well...maybe if I keep my eyes closed...they wont see me!
Thanks for the replies! I was assuming the worst but it doesn't sound like it will be too bad.

LOL - I have the same issue...my answer to them if they give me a hard time is, "well, I could just leave it up on blocks like this, or I can finish it and have it running again....your choice"
