Beat A OZ Lancer?

Hi,

Tonight I raced a 2002 Lancer OZ edition AUTO.
I have a 1990 Honda Civic LX 5 speed.
We raced at the local airport strip from a start.
Someone flagged us down and we took off.
I reved it up to 5 and took off his is just auto so he just floored it.
I easily took him off the line btu he pulled on me.
I shifted into 2nd and pulled more on him. Then we were dead even but for some reason When I hit 3rd gear I pulled away and just barely beat him by about half a car length.
I couldnt beleive this so I asked him if he was flooring it and he said yes.
We both took off at the same exact time also. My mods include: short ram intake, and GT spec muffler with custom exhaust.
I still have the stock 1.5 SOHC engine in it.
I wasnt sure this was right so we raced again and the same thing happened.
Is this possible cause most people probably wont beleive me who didnt witness it. But even the guy i raced said he was flooring it the whole time.

Thanks,
Owen

i dont really doubt it, i mean the new lancers that aren't the EVO are slow as hell. when my wife's car got hit, we got a Lancer as a rental, it was a TOTAL TURD.

Yup, unless it's the EVo, those cars are damn worthless.

Yeh they're pretty slow. I'm not sure if you have a chance with the manual though...

hehehe.....turd....:licka:

All the OZ's are is a regular Lancer with Oz wheels, floormats and steering wheel. It still has the shitty 130hp motor. They are incredibly slow. And being auto, it only increases the suck factor.:gay:

If you had lost, I would recommend you kick yourself in the nuts, if that were possible. :nutkick:

And why oh why are you revving to 5 grand? Do you like your motor? You really shouldnt have to rev past like 3500 for any sort of launch.:slap:

Aiight thanx guys for the insight.
Yea you guys are right if he had a manual and really knew how to drive it he probably woulda took me.
Because I barely beat his car, but I did.
Yea you are also right about reving at 5k but its a big habit.
I cant stop doing it.
When ever I get ready to race and someone flags us down I rev it up way to much cause I get excited and drop the clutch at 5 grand.
I really should be dropping it at 3.5-4 grand correct?
How can I get this habit stopped and remember to rev it up at the correct RPM?
Practice it a whole lot?

Thanks.

One more quick thing.
When we are in the process of gettin ready to race and someone is raising their hands and counting to 3 or about ready to drop his hands.
Is it ok to keep my engine reved at 3.5k then when he drops his hands then drop the clutch?

thanks

Yea, the non EVO Lancers are Turds, actually they only make 120 hp, not 130 like previously stated. They make 130 lbs of torque. I used to love them, then I saw their specs and no longer like them. The non EVO Lancer is a castrated Lancer, it has no balls.
