Y'know those bars that are over the engine bay and under the gas tank? Are those actually helpful in cornering? By themselves I mean. Because they are $120 online and I was wondering whether or not to get them. And if it would be benificial to get them, do you know of a place to get them cheaper?

thanks guys. :sunglasse

yeah they're very beneficial to handling. Your chassis, despite being a hella lot of metal, isn't very well supported for lateral movement, so when you take a corner, your car basically distorts as the weight of it pulls it to one side. This distortion moves the center of gravity to that side, which lightens the load on the other side. That results in loss of traction. (There's more to it, but i don't feel like explaining everything since you didn't ask :D) Those anti-sway bars are designed to stiffen the chassis, to provide lateral support.

As for prices, just hunt around. You can find something better i'm sure. Or you can even make them yourself. Search "DIY Sway Bars". It should pop up on there.

Yeah what he said. In a nutshell they help eliminate body roll and keep traction.

$120 is good for a swaybar kit, but make sure it's of quality and a reputable brand. Or just do what I did, for the price of a typical swaybar for the rear, I got myself a swaybar for an Integra Type-R, a Beak's Performance (http://beaksproducts.com) subframe reinforcement kit, and spent about the same if not less than a typical kit. If you don't already have an Si swarbar though (rear) you'll have to dump some extra $$$ into getting the Si endlinks to put on the bar if you get the ITR one. But for 22mm of swaybar, and an almost sure guarantee it won't mess up your frame, that's a pretty good deal. $65 for the Beak's kit, and about $90 for the ITR bar and bushings/bushing holders you'll need for it. Add about another $90 if you need the Si endlinks.

Let me further that SWAYBARS will help your handling a lot, strut bars won't really do that much of a difference to handling.

Stay away from the hinged style strut tower bars. Neuspeed makes a great front/upper, rear/upper, & rear lower tie bar. Upgrading the rear sway-bar will the biggest effect on handling. Suspension Tech. makes a nice rear 6-way adjustable sway-bar.

If you run the ST rear sway bar, welding the brackets to the frame will help prevent the bracket from twisting out under hard cornering.

I second that DIY Sway Bars idea. But i don't know where you could find a chunk of metal that's the width of your car
cough* rear wing *cough :D

lol, nice suttle sense of humor there, lol.:D

seriously though, sway-bars make a difference, and I think they are worth it. Of course, my opinion is it's always worth it to imporve your handling, suspension, etc.

Thanks a ton for the info, that's really good stuff. I guess I'm getting a SWAYbar set then. I am currently in the process of restoring though. Y'know bangin out dents, fixin tint, repainting wiper arms, that sorta thing. Next actual mod then will be swaybars. Once again, thanks!

Actually from my experience unless you are an avid autocrosser or road racer you will really not see a whole world of difference using strut bars on a street car. You really have to be running really fast and deep into corners which you really cannot do 100% on the street compared to on a track. You'd get better handling from a set of shocks over strut bars.

I had front/rear sways and front upper tie bar, and it felt like a brick on wheels, no roll at all, handled really good, my hatvch has none of these and still handles good but wow, LOTS of body roll

But do these just bolt on to the stock shocks? I swear when I make a quick lane change like my friends 3000GT, his car smoothly changes lane where as my car LEANS like an SUV and jerks the shit outa me when I change lanes... Ive seen an APC bar at Discount Auto Parts... any good? Obviously not but.. any brand... do I just bolt it on or what? is it hard? will it get rid of that damn leaning? especially when I get off an expressway, I have to take that huge round ramp exit which circles forever at high speeds and the leaning motion makes me sick.. would it get rid of that? How is it installed? Sorry I'm :bloated:

A 3000GT is completely different than a Civic. . . To reduce body lean, adding or upgrading the rear sway bar is the way to go. APC IS JUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Yes they bolt on very easily. Strut tower bars only stiffen the chassis, they dont reduce body roll. Also a lower center of gravity(lowered) will help body roll.

APC=American Products Company but made in Taiwan???? OK????

how do you make a sway bar yourself with the same strength in the bushings

You are a dumbshit. This post is a year old and you bring it back from the dead to ask how to make one yourself? Please pound your nutsack with a very heavy hammer so you won't be able to contaminate this planet with your retarded genes.
