could someone give me a website or something that technically tells you the types of performance increases nitrous gives you (as I obviously know nothing about it) I just want to know how much it usually increases speed and such, nothing too complicated. thanx a lot for the help

it shaved a good sec off with my 50 shot ! that is all I can tell you !!!

Well, it'll only give as much power as you tell it to.

Basically, you jet the system to give you a so many Horsepower shot to your motor. Its the probably most consistant power adder on the market, but if abused or not used right it can be one of the most detrimental to your motor.

Also, a Nitrous system wont increase your top speed. Dont let the movies fool you, your car will only go as fast as its geared for. "My car topped out at 140... I need NOS." < Sorry Mr. Fast and Furious nitrous wont increase your top speed. It'll just help you get there quicker.

My :2cents:

Alright. Thanx a lot! That cleared up a lot for me:D I guess I was kinda confused, because I did think that it increased top speed. Well, thanks again for clearing that up for me!

if you have high enough gearing but not enough horsepower to use it all then nos can increase top speed... nos gives extra horsepower so while ur spraying u could go faster.. not sure what would happen when u stopped spraying though, you'd at least slow down

this is true, and would be the only time when a Nitrous system would help you gain some speed. But you'll drain the tank so fast having to hold it long enough for it to make a differance.

plus ur motor at those speeds (if its not built correctly) is gonna go BOOOOOOOOM

I have the ZEX nitrous kit installed (100 shot) on my baby and if you know about this kit then you know that it shoots the nas when you hit full open throttle and as much as I like this I'd have to say its not that cool when you have it turned on from the beggining of the race.
The reason I say this is because when you have it turned on then as soon as you put the pedal to the floor you get the shot which results only in a really long burn out of your tires just because it fires so fast my tires didnt even have time to get the traction and I even have traction bars installed !!
But when you flip the switch at full throttle when your allready going a good speed then thats a NICE kick in the ass !! I like that much better !!
Just my input.......

NOS is nothing to fool with if you don't know the basics...
I have personally never used it, but have helped people set it up...

How much speed increse will you get?
You probably meanb 1/4 mile ET..
Cause unless your running out of HP to get top speed (probably would have high 2.76-3.23) gears, your just going to get there quicker...
it also depends on the car, smaller engines (even turbos) work better with 50-100 shot, med sized engines like 350-360s work better with 125-150 hp NOS, big blocks, 421-500 work better with 150-200 hp units, they make 300-400 hp hp Nitrous, but the actualy HP you gain depends on how the engine is built...

Alot of factors to run nitrous..
Your Timming needs to be backed off (retarted back), a wide lob seperation cam (112-115 deg) works better with NOS vs a normal (108-110 deg sep) cam..
without Notrous the 110 cam give more power... You need good flowing Exhaust..
and a Good fuel system, what I mean is a high performance fuel pump, maybe a bigger fuel line... cause if your fuel runs out (and NOS Eats it up) while racing just for a few seconds, you'll have problems, leaning it out too much will melt your pistons and wreck alot of parts really quick...

There are people who build engine to run on NOS, I've heard of people building a 454 cid 450 hp Big Block Chevy to run with 350 hp NOS system.....
There are people out there with moutain motors like 600-700 cubic inches on the street with 800-900 hp and sometimes 1000 hp and they add a 400-500 hp Nitrous system..

I used to look at Nitrous as cheating kind of, people would frown on you for using it,,, but today there are turbos, nos is no less cheating than a turbo...
To me, run on the motor or anything goes.

Read up on nitrous, nothing wrong with it, but if not used properly it can grenade your engine.

take care

scott

If a person wants to use nitrous consistantly on the motor then yeah you have to modify it to handle the stuff. Which works just the same as a turbo or supercharger, but I still don't like it.

It reminds me of using steroids to win a competition like the Olympics. Pump some of daddy's little helper into your car and off you go to win.

Yeah Steroids suck, I used to train with some dudes who entered no holds bared fighting, who would grapple with some 190 lb guy who was pretty tough, then 6 months later he's lost some fat, and 230 lbs, much stronger, faster etc..
lots of side effects... just like NOS..

But a motor that is built to run Nitros can handle it if used properly... it's only a piston you melt, a piece of metel, not like your body and roids.

I do not believe nitrous is any more like Steroids than a turbo is..
They are both power adders, both a complicated to add to a non power added motor to last...
both can be applied to a mild engine that get good mileage, and can be used to add power and keep the good mpg..
ONE does run out, but so can a gas tank..
