As most of you know i just bought an Rx-7 (1986) and now its giving me HELLA trouble. its hard to shift into first. i usually have to jerk it back between 1st and 2nd to actually get it into first. also it grinds whenever i try to put it in reverse. but when the car is off it goes into gear, no problem. but this morning i tried to put it into gear and start it but it sounded like the car wasnt getting enough "juice" to turn over. its like it was barely cranking. so please...what is it gonna be? i can get a new engine and tranny with only 121k miles on it for $300. thanx.

well, first off CONGRATS on the buy!

how to fix that..... adjust your clutch. check your free play, u need 10mm and a 12mm box wrenches (one of each) to fix it, and make sure that you aren't leaking fluid in the engine. your other problem might be worn out shifter bushings, 10 bux at your local mazda dealership, or buy some from racingbeat. if those don't help get rid of the grinding (i know that which u speak of) just make sure it's in gear before you let out on the clutch! getting it into gear when it is stopped - let it roll a couple of inches, then try again.

so yeah... freeplay!:bigthumb:

You can find used trannys for real cheap that still run good, and if you can save up $1000, your engine could get rebulit, good as new.
