Nissan Altima

so i just realized that my parents' 2000 Nissan Altima has the same engine as a 240sx (KA24DE). i find this interesting. i could very well turbo my parents' car, lol. would it not be better to drop this engine into a 240SX hatchback and turbo it since i would think the lower mileage would be better than just rebuilding it. although if you rebuild you could bore it out and etc. btw my parents only have about 65K on the car since they got it in 2000. does anyone else have any insight on this? sorry if this the wrong forum to post this in but it concerns more the 240SX than the Altima which i dont really like except for the engine (the Altima isnt that comfortable, to me anyway).

has the engine changed over the years. i didnt know Nissan used the same engine for 10 years. i never said i was actually gonna have it mounted in, but what's changed on it from the 240SX to the Altima?

Yes, there were changes...

One such change was over to VVT in 98... My dad's 95 altima is VVT-less. lol My 98 240sx however does have this, and also has platinum tipped spark plugs. I know you're talking about 2000 ones... So I will talk about that. The engine is mounted sideways in the Altima (compared to the 240sx mouting anyway), because it is FWD. In essence anyway, if u wanna drop a newer KA, you need to drop in one FROM A 240SX!!!!!!! Actually, it would probably be possible, with a LOT of work... But not worth it... Anything is possible if u put your mind to it. You would be forced to Act a Fool through frustration of installing it though.

i don't understand why this is in this forum.

first of all, the Alt KA24 is FWD, which means it's mounted differently in the car, and would not by any stretch fit into a 240SX.

i'm going to move this to Altima forum...

thanks for the info people, i just wanted some insight on the engine. i wasnt sure if this should be in the Altima section or not. also, arent some 240SXs FWD? i could be wrong. i'm just a person full of questions.

No they dont make any RWDs, but if you really wanna turbo your Altima, some guys on altimas.net are running 13 second Altimas with stock blocks. However it would be much cheaper to just drop in a SR20DET which fits.

ok, well I am going to add to this a little bit.

Since the KA24DE in the 240sx and the Altima are the same, other then the entire RWD/FWD issue, are the heads interchangeable. Would a built head from a 240sx swap directly onto the KA24DE block of the Altima.

Also, are the ECU's interchangeable.

I am thinking of starting a small project and since I know the 240sx head has a different combustion chamber design then the Altimas, I think it may be a cheap yet effective upgrade. Any thoughts on this ???
