Dropping Resistor?

Anyone know what this is/what relevance it has to the G20? Just happened to notice it in a service bulletin at infinitihelp.com. If someone with a service manual could look it up, that'd be great too :)

The Dropping Resistor on a G20 allows the transmission to shift smoother. Some times when you get a jerky shifting condition, they will suggest you change the resistor, told me to and I ended up spending $60 for nothing. Very seldom is the problem. ...Bob

The dropping resistor slows down the current flow to the shift solenoids in the transaxle.A failed resistor will give a very harsh upshift.{shock shift}.
