Yeh i think its your clutch slipping.

The old legends are quick, but the Crx should have it....

I would also say check your clutch. Theres a way to tell...

Park somewhere safe, put the car in 5th gear, and rev to about 4grand. Dump the clutch. If its good, the car will buck and stall out immediatley. If its bad, you'll feel the motor bog down from the clutch slipping. Kinda like the feeling when you accidentally shift from 2nd to 5th......Not that I know what thats like

actually, hondas can live through mis shifts. my brother has a 91 STD hatch, D15B1, it smoked like crazy, so he purposly tried to blow it up.

He'd go through first, go throgh second to redline, then rev it up, and SLAM it back into first. the tach would jump around to about 9,000, and the engine didn't blow. I figured it woud've exploded right then and there, but it didnt. It did however blow up a couple days later, but it ran good up until then and started knocking while he was driving a long trip. Just goes to show you that even the shittiest honda engine can take a hell of a beating. BTW, the people that had the car before him was getting rid of it, so they thought it would be funny to put a brick on the gas pedal until the car blew. well it didnt blow obviously, but it rev limited until it shut itself down. my brothe rput oil in it, and it started right up.

What do u guys mean by the clutch is slipping?

Tony
06-11-2003, 08:59 PM
it means your clutch is slipping, but from what you said I don't think its your clutch, because you said it takes off fine, but once it hits 4k rpms it looses its power right? If it was your clutch, it would have done the opposite, it will take it awhile for it to finally catch and then take off.

Yeah there's definitely something wrong with your CRX. I have raced against Legends myself, and my CRX owns them big time, at ANY speeds. You should have toasted him, are you SURE he was stock, especially seeing as his being on 19's would have slowed him down too.

replace the clutch disc, pressure plate, & throwout bearing. You might as well upgrade your clutch if its bad. Centerforce is the SHIT!!!! I got mine for $260 for everything including an alignment tool :bigthumb:

I have expierenced a clutching slipping @ low RPM and also high RPM. You should be able to feel the clutch slipping if it is. It would feel as if you were driving & engaged the clutch 1/2 way. Is your clutch adjusted properly?

I dunno man...my pops has a 91' NSX and that thing is so stinkin fast and our family also owns the 92' legend and my dad says that the legend reminds him so much of the NSX becasue they basically got the same engines but the legend is much heavier. so i dunno, the legends have some balls, so as long as you kept up...i wouldn't hold your head too low!

new clutches have like a silicone on them much like new brake rotors do, you need to wipe that off and scuff the surface first so that the friction material last longer and wears correctly.

Do you have a HF trans??? That would make your d16a as slow as a DX or slower. BTW Im a NOOB to this forum. Hi everyone

"Breaking-in" a clutch is simple - just dont beat on your car for 500-750 miles. I know driving normal is hard, atleast for me it is.

Centerforce clutch came from Summit Racing - Summit Sport Compact (www.summitsportcompact.com) Retail price may be slightly higher, we a get a discount because we orders loads of shit from there for our shop.

Its actually quicker han most stock si's.I took out my friends 91 civic si.All he had was an intake.Actually i like that Hf tranny 2nd gear is so long i can get i up to like 85.So when i race i dont have o be shifting as much.By the way my car is launching extremely good know.I was pracicing my shifts.I think im gonna ask that guy in the legend for a rematch.Hes bragging in school saying that he smoked me.I had him in first gear.

06-13-2003, 03:25 AM
You really should ditch the HF trans. The Si trans is the best d series trans for 1/4 mile. I garuntee that you can not beat a Stock Si thats runs good with a driver that has the same driving skill as you. Trust me. The Si final drive is like 4.25 I think the hf is like 2.9 somthing. Most drag cars run gears that are 4.10+

Problem_Si
06-13-2003, 04:44 AM
If you didn't "break-in" your clutch, then you just wasted every penny that you spent on that clutch.

The first 500-700 miles of the clutches life determines how it will wear, and perform under load. If you dont break it in, It could already be bad.

There was this girl around here that went through 4 clutches in 10 months, 2 of which were heavy duty. She's like WTF, my car isn't that powerful (92 vx = 62hp), and Im like...No shit, take those god dam wheels off your car and learn to drive. Funny as hell, she had 19" Chrome Racing Hart CP35's....and they had to weigh at least 70lbs a piece with tires. That piece of shit probably had enough trouble getting moving with 13's on it, let alone 400lbs of rotating mass. LOL.

I drove it once, and tried to get it to do something. I rev til like 6 grand in every gear and try to get it moving. She's like "WHAT ARE YOU DOING", .....and Im like, its a Honda you moron, you're supposed to drive like this. I got the damn thing into 5th gear, and with my foot to the floor, the thing was actually SLOWING DOWN!!!! and going downhill no less. AHAHAHAHAHa I laughed my ass off. Some people will never learn. $4000 rims on a $500 car. hehe:icon16:

as much as i agree that the HF tranny sucks balls, if you ever go to the track and watch the v8 guys run, there are a lot of 2 and 3 speed race cars. try to get down a 1/4 mile with a 3 speed and a 4.1 final drive. especially on a v8 that revs to 6,000 rpm.

How do you avoid the clutch from slipping?
You invest in a new clutch.
What they mean by saying, your clutch is slipping is that its so worn out that it doesnt grab very good. If you dont understand how clutches work or just wana understand better go here: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/clutch.htm
It explains it so anyone can understand. It even describes the "slipping" it does when they begin to wear out.
